im installing new pads on my 96 hatch... i was wondering what i have to do with the piston like how do i not introduce air into the system??

To get the pistion back down (which is what I think you're asking) Just use a c-clamp or some muscle with some vice grips and press it back down. Fluid will go back into the cylinder and reservior.

as long as you don't open the bleeder valve on the caliper, you will not allow ANY air into the system. Just swap, push the piston back, put the caliper back on and call it a day

thank you very much because i just started working at a shop in my neighborhood and i have no experience besides my backyard work and i do everything the ghetto way lol thats not good for customers cars

Why didn't you just go work as a lube tech first so the only fucked up thing you could do was forget to tighten a drain bolt?

You forgot that, on the other end of the spectrum, a drain bolt can also be over tightened.

why must u use all that tools when all u need is 2 flat head and press on it against each other between the calibers to move the piston in a lil, ghetto but it workss

take a c-clamp and the old pad and just depress the piston until its all the way in. And you should have someone like a professional helping you because messing with other peoples' cars isn't smart to do if you don't know too much. And no offense, but if you can't depress a caliper piston, you don't know much at all.

dont forget that in the case of the rear callipers they are adjustable, if the pad is to thin when you put a new one you will need to turn the piston so that it runs back making the room needed for the nw ones and the disc.

Hey,
I did the same job last week myself.
Get Brakepade(mine Raybestos ceramic 36$ from Autozone), Brake cleaner and some good grease.
Its pretty simple. Get one chilton's manual also. I got that from local library.
To pushback the piston I used just a sturdy screwdriver.

Remember the brakefluid reservoir will overflow. So keep some waste cloth around it so the paint is not soaked.
Do it and you will save 70$ atleast.
