look at the brake pedal assembly, when you hit the brakes the plunger on the cylinder shaped comes out.
actually, now thinking about it, if the plastic piece had fell out the brake lights would be on all the time, so thats not it.

My trans ground broke recently and was the cause of no brake lights and coolant temp senser in the dash to jump around . Also the batt light would come on as well.
But as you stated it might be in the dash area . I know when i put a new ground strap on and made sure i had a good solid ground my problem went bye-bye.

Re: brake lights not working........ (B18CivicEg)
well i changed out my cluster fuse and they work but my taillights still dont....so is the fuse for the taillights the same as for the break lights? cause my parking lights and **** come on but just not my brakes....and i dont think it would be a bad ground on anything cuase i didnt do anything to it but remove my gauge faces to sell them.

we cant work on your car for you. YOU were the one under the dash pulling **** out, obviously thats when the problem occured. now you want us to figure out what the hell you did that you wasnt supposed to. i already gave you the location of the brake switch, if thats not the problem then there is nothing else we can do to help.

Re: (schardbody)
yea but i cant figure it out so i dont know if its a fuse that has blown to something else that is causing the brake lights to not work. cause i know how some stuff are connect like ur hazard lights and turn signals. the turn signals wont work unless ur hazard lights are hooked up. i just dont know if there is something like that for the brake lights. i know u cant fix my car for me.

Re: (B18Sleeper)
do as schardbody said and check that brake switch...maybe theres a short somewere...check the wires that go to the tail lights...maybe both bulbs went out...hard to believe they both go out at the same time but you never know, could happen..

that happened to me before as well..
what if theres somethin holding that little button in and making it NOT pop out when you press the break pedal??like some type of sticky goo that oozed on it???lol...dont know...i really dont know what else could be it...maybe when you pulled whatever you pulled from inside the dash, you prob pulled off a wire that gave power to the break lights??sorry but im no longer any help...

sorry about that last reply from me, must of been a bad day or something.
first thing, CHECK ALL FUSES. are your taillights working or not???
if your taillights are working and your brakelights arent then you either unplugged the brakelight switch, broke it, or its out of adjustment.
crank the car, hit the brake pedal, see if the plunger in the brake light switch comes out, if it does and the lights dont work then the switch or the wiring to the switch is probably bad.
if the switch is too far adjusted it wont let the plunger come out far enough to make a circuit and the lights wont come on either, in that case you will need to adjust the switch (it just screws in and out then locks via locknut.
check that out then let me know.
