It sounds like bad wiring to me. My friend had a jetta that did the same thing we re-wired it and the problem went away (I think there was a break in one of the wiers). Hope that helps.

this might be a long shot in the dark.. but check all the bulbs and make sure none of them are burnt out.. i remeber a while ago i put some altezza lights on my old hatch and it did something similar cause i had the reverse light in the brake light spot.. i dont even remember if your systoms were the same as mine but it frustrated me like hell.. also your brake switch under the dash on the brake pedal could have just gone bad..

also make sure you have enough brake fluid in the master cylinder cause if you dont the sensor will pick it up and do the same thing w/ the brake light..
