Brake Indicator Comes on Between 4k-5k
I have a stock '98 EX and just recently the brake indicator light began popping on when I hit around 4000-5000 rpms.
It seems more likely to happen from "hard" acceleration, such as leaving a stop sign. It also seems more likely to happen when the car is cold.
I've heard of it staying on means you're low on fluid, but mine pops on around 4000-5000 rpms and then goes off around 5500-6500 rpms.
Any answers to what this is?

It's trying to let you know it's braking because of the immense speeds....VTEC just kicked in, y'kno? There's no limits to how fast you could possibly be going .
Alright, seriously though, I have no clue. at me.

I don't really mean blasting off from a stop sign. Just, well, it doesn't do it when accelerating to merge into traffic or anything.
The problem first started where it would pop on and then off, without me touching anything. Then one day it wouldn't go off, so I slapped my e-brake and it went away.
Now it goes off by itself after a few seconds, often when I shift gears.
I doubt it's faulty wiring. The wiring is all stock and I've never had a problem in three years until just over the last two weeks or so.

I was under the impression that the indicator light will stay on if the fluid is low and that you shouldn't just top off brake fluid...
I've also never heard of the light coming on for pads. Well, not on Civics at least.

Yeah it doesn't sound like the pads...
I wouldn't say it's the fluid either.
Though it takes <10 seconds to check the fluid so why not...
It really sounds like a loose e-brake indicator - or inaccurate.

The brake light is a 'switch' meaning it just knows if its on or off...
There is a float in the MC, if that foat drops below a certain point, the light comes on. A shift in the fluid can cause this momentary switch.
Check your fluid...it takes 10 seconds.

To check back on this, yes the fluid is low (figured it was since last time I was thinking I should address it soon).
It's right above the minimum mark right now though.
Not asking anything, just checking back in case anyone else has the same symptoms.

Well... let's just say I've really slacked with the brake fluid... a lot. I park in garage that's kept clean and no new marks from either of our cars (previous renters left some messes though).

Well the fluid has to go somewhere. If its not leaking then it's probably because your pads are low, and they have to compress more from when they were new.
