Brake Fluid
Looking for verification on proper brake fluid for my Civic (99 Si). DOT3 or DOT5? If vehicle spends some time at the track, what differences in fluid should I consider?

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
Like the other guy said, if you are using them a lot and make hard stops it might be best to move up to dot 5 ...but if you want what they rec. its dot3 good luck, which did you decide

Re: Brake Fluid (B18C1 Del Sol soon)
Don't put a dot 5 fluid in your brake system.
Dot 5 is incompatible with dot3/4/5.1. Dot 5 is silicone based and dot 3/4/5.1 are polyglycol based.
Check your owners manual. And it will probably say dot 3 or 4 only.
Just go to pep boys and compare all of the dot 4 fluids. I think valvoline is the best one they carry.

correct, no dot 5 in a dot 3/4 system.
http://www.ogracing.com carries the ate superblue and ate type 200 gold. both are excellent fluids for track and street use.

Re: Brake Fluid (speedstars03)
ok you car calls for dot3 but if you flush your whole system you can use dot 5 and you will melt your rotors before yu boil your brake fluid unless you have abs then stay away from it

Re: (murmur9)
Excuse the technical problems there. Quick recap. Honda dealer started this confusion. After installing a Wilwood big brake kit, I started using Wilwood 570 brake fluid (complete flush). I wanted to have my brake system pressure bled before the three more track days I have this year. I took it into the dealer for this. They initially indicated DOT 5 was what I should be using. Since I was already using DOT3 (Wilwood) I was concerned. I later discovered DOT 5 was NEVER recommended for the Civic Si (99-00 at least). It's all worked out now and my brakes feel better than ever after the pressure bleed. I would highly recommend a pressure bleed over the two man pedal operation. Braking pressure feels much more linear than before. This will be HUGE for running at Road America. Thanks for responding. SS
