Default brake fade, what could be causing it?

I noticed that my car has considerable brake fade and im not sure what could be causing it. the lines are stainless steel, new pads, new si master cylinder. whenever i brake hard or for prolonged periods of time the brakes smell, and when i opened my hood right after driving i noticed a small amount of smoke. do you guys have any idea as to what could be causing this? the brakes are 96 jdm itr swapped onto an ek hatch.

Hot brake pads don't work as well as ones that are cool. Look into some of those colored brake pads. I don't remember who makes them, but they come in red, green and yellow I believe. Each color is meant for a specific purpose. Stock pads really aren't made for prolonged hard braking like you'd get when running auto-x or road race events.
Hot pads=shitty braking.

How hard are you driving to do that? The streets arent a track event you know.

Could be brake fluid... bleed the brakes and put some dot4...along with teh actual pads getting hot, the fluid may come to a boil =bad

sounds like your fluid is gone

brake fluid is hydroscopic, that means it absorbs water when its exposed to air. TECHNICALLY whenever you open a bottle of brake fluid if you dont use it all you are supposed to throw away the rest. what kind of fluid did you use when you did your brake job?

I have never had any such trouble with my 97 dx coupe, stock brake rotors and metalmaster pads. Try changing brake fluid like kamin said.

I think the word you were seeking is "hygroscopic"..

I work with hygroscopc materials all the time. Oils used in refrigeration systems suck up moisture like it's nobody's business. If we don't use an entire container on a job it's pretty much garbage.

At last, someone else who sees what I was trying to say the whole time!
