Brake Caliper won't return for reassembly
I am changing the rear brake pads on my 95 Del Sol and I cannot seem to force the piston back in far enough to straddle the calipers. Is there some type of procedure I am unaware of? I have done brakes on various cars, but I am new to Hondas. Any help?

Re: Brake Caliper won't return for reassembly (Del Sol Man)
You need to 'screw in' the pistons on the rear calipers. Notice the 'T' patter on the piston. Just use a pry bar or a pair of needle nose pliers. You will know what I mean when you look at it.
There is a special tool that attaches to a 3/8" drive ratchet. It looks like a cube with bumps on it.
Good luck.

Thanks Kenji
I know what it looks like and will try it when I get home. I assume that I just line the groves with the "pin" on the pads. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Hi Kenji
Thanks, it worked on one side. Now I have a problem because I somehow got the pads in and can't get them out. I jammed the sliding part forward trying to slip it off. Now I can't seem to move it at all. The hardware seems jammed against the piston side pad. Any ideas for me?

It's the "C" Bracket part. It seems like the spring hardware is jammed or something.

I suggest removing the entire C bracket thing with the pads installed. Just undo the 2 bolts for the caliper body and pull that out of the way. You may need to "encourage" it with a BFH. Then undo the 2 bolts for the "C" bracket part (I don't think you can pull it off without sliding the caliper out of the way.....**** and I just did this a couple of weeks ago!!). More encouragement from the BFH and you should be set. Then bang the pads out of the "C" bracket thing and retry.

The bolts on the "C" part have to be removed? Okay. I'll give it a shot when I get home. Working is really getting in the way.

Yup, I think its number 50 in the pic, but there are two....one for each hole in the "C" bracket.

Thanks for the help. Got it finished. The C bracket just swings out of the way.
Now that I am driving on it, what are the torque specs for the "C" bracket bolts and caliper bolts. I torqued them to 35 but anyone know?

Ok. Torque specs. Bolt #50 in the above pic 28 ft lbs, bolt #47 gets 17 ft lbs. Rear caliper specs.....

Thanks Steve
I will correct the torque over the weekend. Thanks for all your help. The diagram is great! I am going to use this forum more as my maintenance and repair needs increase. I am at about 85,000 miles now.
