those are the fuel lines. you can make them yourself using earl's hose ends and whatever hose you want i.e. russel, aeroquip... the fuel lines are for the modification that is needed to use a returnless fuel system (rsx s) in a return line fuel system (civic/sol). you can actually change all your lines to this style of hose, it looks really nice...but its expensive and heavy.

They are also used for super high flow fuel rails.....or just about anythign you can use braided lines on.

Why do you want to use them?

They are AN fittings. Those look to me to be -6 size to be exact and they would be female with a male inside coming from the return on the fuel rail and no, you don't need them for a stock B16 but they are indeed nice as hell.

for those of you that like the "look" of the braided hoses, you can buy braided look hose kits. they are usually 40-70 for a kit that does almost the whole engine bay. they aren't intended to provide additional strength, but its cheaper than using the real thing... if you just want the look. if you want the real thing, spend the time to determine the lengths you need, how many fittings, what sizes and spend the day doing the whole car at once.

go to jegs, or summit they sell them, but your question was what are they first. look at what those lines are going into, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR that should have answered your question?
