bought a hatch and need help in a lot of areas....
hey,
I just recently picked up a 95 hatchback DX. its obviously slow and shitty right now. I am not going to be building this car for straight line performance, it is my opinion that FWD was never intended for drag racing, it was intended for economy. I have driven domestics my whole life. I have a 650hp s-10 blazer that runs high 10s and ive done every ounce of work on it. it is well known in philly (its flat black with red wheels, if you;ve been to teh philly street races u may have seen it)anyway heres what i want to do and my questions.
i am going to set it up for autocross. What springs would u guys reccomend, and what shocks/struts. also who makes good matched sway bar kits.
i want to go with a stock style 15 inch wheel off some sort of honda. any particular wheel u guys would recommend that maybe was extra wide from teh factory?
eventually i will do an engine swap because its really too slow for what i want to do right now. Seeing as v-tech to me is the ***** way to have a real cam, i'm going to be using an ls 1.8 that will be fairly mild. is there any difference in flow/chamber design between a b18a/b and b18c, or is the only difference the v-tech. is teh bottom end pretty much the same between these motors. i may end up having to go with the b18c because there is much more aftermarket support, although i really don;t want to

good luck building a ls all motor (if that's what your going for). and appearently you don't know how vtec workd do you? oh wait, i mean v-tech!

I've been autocrossing my Accord in STS for the past year and recently switched to a 92 Si hatchback. Before you think about changing anything on your car, you need to think about which class you want to run in. You have the option of running H-Stock, STS, FSP, or SM. The minute you install 15" wheels and tires you will be classed in STS since H-stock will restrict you to 14" wheels. If you are thinking about a motor swap you will be classed in SM. I would recommend that you determine which class you want to be in, what cars you will be up against (IE. The Mini will spank Civics in H-stock or the BMWs and the AE86s will spank civics in FSP), and how much money you want to dump into this. At this point, just take the civic out to a practice run and drive it. Also talk to some of your local autocross guys for opinions and have them drive your car.
The majority o the civics in the CA region run a combination of Ground Controls and Konis but, it's always down to the driver. I'm not sure how long you have autocrossed but you will be surprised the times the National Champs can pull off in a bone stock car versus a newbie in a car with a tons of aftermarket parts. No insult to you and your driving but just an observation of what I have seen.

im planning to run street modified. my cousin has autocrossed for years, so he can pretty much tell me where teh car needs improvements, i was just interested to see what brans people were running and what not. thanks

ya aside from that.. because it really doesn;t make any difference to me. i just need flow numbers and differences in chamber design and valve size. i imagine the heads aren;t much different.

I don't feel like answering all that, but right off the top of my head, the 95 DX wheels are 14" rims, not 15"
I do believe anyways, it's taht way w/ my 95 EX, wouldn't expect the DX to be larger :-\

I guess this realy doesn't matter but the ex and si came stock with the 14's all others were stock with 13's
