Both Rad and A/C Fan Inoperable
Hey guys,
I did an engine and trans swap for a coworker of my dads a few months back. A direct engine and trans swap for him, no performance upgrade. 97 civic HX.
He called me and said when he was at a traffic light and sitting for sometime, the car would start to rise in temp and overheat. As soon as he starts to drive, no problems what so ever. So here is what I did check, any help would be great. I searched and have not found anyone with this issue that I saw.....
-Ran direct wires from both fans to the battery and both work
-Put a brand new coolant temp switch on(one on top of thermostat housing)
-Checked both fan fuses in engine bay fuse box
-Swapped both fan relays with other relays
-Ran car at idle with a/c on and interior blower motor at full blast force fans to come on and nothing
-With car running, I have ~14.1 volts coming to the condenser fan connector, but as soon as I reconnected it, it never came on. Also checked the rad fan connector at the same time and no voltage there
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

bleed the coolant system - fix the rad fan. (Air pocket somewhere will cause fan to not operate)
add/ remove freon from a/c system....fix the a/c fan (Too much or too little freon will lock up the compressor)

Coolant system was bled a couple months back when the engine swap was done. and the freon was filled to spec at the same time. Both fans worked perfectly fine then. And in the last week they both are not functioning at all.

Sounds like the condenser fan ground wire is bad.
If you jump the radiator fan switch connector, does the radiator fan now get voltage and run?

Re: Both Rad and A/C Fan Inoperable
Figured this issue out.
A/C Fan-
After hours of trying wire jumping combinations, I found this issue. I went a couple connectors back from the fan, the 4 pin connector, and jumped prior to it to the fan, and it worked. Opened it up, and it fell apart inside (corrosion).
Rad fan-Worked when I applied 12 volts originally, put new fan switch in and no change. Then ran 12 volts to the fan again, and now it wont work. Jumped the the switch and heard relay click. Put a new fan in, and bam! good to go.
Weird series of events. But at least it works now haha.
Thanks everyone!
