Wtf, well this is a new boss steering hub and while I tigten it down, it cracked. I'm positive i didnt over tigten or near over tighten it.

here is a pix of where it cracked.



so frustrating....anyone has this problem? should I contact Boss in japan ? lol

Was it fully seated before you tightened it? As a side note, you could probably pull it and go to a welding shop and have someone TIG the backside...

I bought it off here, from a guy.

I didnt think it was safe driving with a crack in it but yea I figure something out.

WHat you think if I jbweld that shut?

ALso when you said seated all the way, im not sure but it was in as far as it would go, in the back of the hub it has 2 slot and that lines up with the white plastic piece on the steering wheel shaft.

did I do it right? looks straight forward to me.

anyway ruined my morning, was hoping to get it installed and not have any issue.

Is it a splined shaft? JB weld probably is not going to work. I bet you could get it TIG welded for less than $20.00. Hell, if you have a local highschool or college that offers welding courses you probably could get it done free or buy some kid lunch...

spline shaft? I'm pretty sure its a civic who doesnt know.

The reason I ask, is because most splined shaft hubs usually are slightly pressed on. I admit that I have never replaced the hub on a Honda, but for other makes I have, and because the hub shaft is splined they normally do not seat all the way down and have to be lightly pressed on. Which means you don't torque it down with the nut as the splines may bind and crack the hub. At least that has been my experience with non Honda's.

I think I know what your talking about and maybe that might be my problem. Well first off, when I removed the nut that holds the stock steering wheel, it didnt take much force at all for it to come off. When I was reading how to remove the stock steering wheel people had to use extension bar to get if off , my case just my hand and little force.

The steering wheel shaft is bigger then the threaded end where the hub goes over and the nut goes on the other side to tighten the hub down, so im thinking my boss hub probably bottom out where it gets larger by the shaft and thats probably why it cracked my hub. So you honda-tech thats done this before how tight do you tigten these anyways? This is on my 99 civic si.

Well i tested if the hub was aluminum or metal and it appears to be aluminum. A magnet wouldnt stick to it.

Is HKB hub suppose to be aluminum?

to me that doesnt make any sense escpecially for safety.
