Boostin my D16Y8
hey guys im boostin my D in about two to three months from now, ive been doing my research n its say with stock internal it can be boosted all the to way up to 200-250hp with stock internals, but recommended that i swap out the rods n piston for assurance. it that info accurate?
i was lookin at turbo kits but they all cost around 2.5k to 3.5k+, so i think im just going to go custom on the turbo kit n save myself a few grand. n also i would like to hear your opinions about the crower stroker kit... is it worth it? dont know if they have it for the D series cause all it sad in the book that it was for hondas/acuras. thank a bunch in advance

You could.... use a greddy turbo kit for a z6 if you convert to obd1 and run a p28. They go for about $1400 for the non intercooled kit.

Stock internals are only good for 200hp claims D-series.org Those guys seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to SOHC VTEC motors. Check out the forum there. SOHC freaks own that place.

Ahh...its debatable.
With the Z6, stock internals can handle roughly 220whp...give or take a few. A Y8 motor id be a little more skeptical because of the oiling issues it has. Unless that Oil pump is replaced, Id be careful.
Personally, if you want power...replace the pistons/rods, because those rods are like toothpicks.
Is a stroker kit worth it?....absolutely not on a D series.

I though a stroker kit basically replaces most of the stock internals? my plan is now is yeah replace my toothpicks so i dont have major engine failure n replace my pistons for better compression. n just boost it from there n run on like 4 to 6 psi to get about 200whp.

Re: (WanderingSamurai830)
oohh bte i was thinkin about the stroker kit so i can run a higher psi cuz my goal is to reach 300 to 350 whp, but most likely going to be 200 whp when im just cruisin around town then when a *** wipe in his sti or porsche comes along just turn up my psi so i can show them that u dont have to give up an arm n a leg to go fast hahaha thats what a electronic boost controller does right? sorry still reading up on most of this stuff

True story..
Here is the end result of my boosted y8, with its stupid little stock rods

Re: (Forty04)
If you are boosting why would you want to raise your compression? Oh, and fyi, an acquaintance ran 10psi an 237hp on a stock y8. It is tuned on Hondata and is still running strong. While it is true that y8's have notorious oiling and timing problems, there are aftermarket alternatives. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Your car may be the sum of its parts, but the tune is everything.

I know there are many Y8 motors running around boosting 10+ psi...same with on the Z6 motor. Im not saying its impossible...but it is taking a chance...
You got me twisted bro...im not saying that it cant be done...damn too many people on here jump to conclusions.
Dont give me your FYI bullshit either.

Re: (1995Civic)
as for raiding my compression, still doin my reseach on that, hhhmm 10 psi n 237hp sounds really good, btw tuning is everything! you can buy all the freaking parts you want but without tuning is going to run like ****
dude anything is possible as long as you have the knowledge n put that knowledge into power anything is possible, look at papadakis's 8 second civic haha now theres a tuner right there ( of course his car wouldnt last a sec on the streets without running into something hahah)

If your boosting, your going to want to lower your compression. When people raise their compression, its usually because they're going with an all motor/NA setup.

If you are on the cheap and wanting to change the rods/pistons why not piece together a junkyard kit and pickup a set of TT rods and some Vitara pistons from fjt.
If you are junkyard savy the kit can be pieced together for around $1k and will be a hundred times better than the Greddy and you will come out a hell of a lot smarter at the end of the process.
Check out homemadeturbo.com . There is a ton of info there.

My custom setup was so cheap...I was amazed.
'99 y8
T3/TO4 turbo at 14 psi
JE 9:1 pistons
Crower rods
TXS FMIC
chipped p28 tuned on crome pro
runs like a champ!
burnin a little oil though....
