Boost Or Swap
Couldnt declare what category to put this in but oh well, so i have a 92 civic sedan dx. its in decent condition, enouph to where i would consider putting money into it. it has 98.5k and runs good but its such a damn dog. it has a d15b7 in it with a short ram. i have done research on these engines and have read that they can maybe push 200 to the wheels boosted on stock internals...i know this isnt a strong engine so my dilema is to boost this one if its worth it or go na with a b16 or som e other swap i can get for around 2500...just need some input.

Re: Boost Or Swap
I would swap a gsr in there and start piecing together a turbo kit which is the cheapest way IMO. That way you can make 300whp easily on a stock motor and it still be reliable, i just dont like boosting d-series unless they are built.

Re: Boost Or Swap
find a greddy turbo kit...i picked mine up for 400 bucks...
boosting the d16 would be the cheapest route to go. Also if you get a good tune and run 8 psi on a 14b or 15g youll be quick and reliable. I have some friends that have teh greddy kit and surpassed 80k miles.

Re: Boost Or Swap
you spent 1500 for a boosted setup that equals out to a swap with equal power (GSR)?

Re: Boost Or Swap
I spent 400 on a used greddy kit and will be making 225+ on my y7/y8 combo. Getting tuned this thursday.
Or you could piece together a kit for around 4-700 bucks and be around 200 hp safely and "rape" b swaps all day (stock swaps)
OR since you were planning on a B swap which usually cost 2500 on the average you could instead find a D16 short block have it machined and rebuilt with Eagle rods/Vitara pistons for 600 then you will have a basicly new built bottom end find a z6 head for 100 which leaves you 1300 for a turbo kit. With 1000 you can find a GOOD used turbo kit and the left over 300 gives you money to tune. With the eagle/vitara Z6/y8 set up you could IF you really wanted to go towards 400 whp dependant on which turbo you picked out.
or...
you could just do a swap *** USED gsr motor swap and still be dirt slow.

I had a turbo single cam (in an EK sedan ) several years back and I enjoyed the hell out of it. If you're on a budget that's the way to go in my opinion. Check out www.d-series.org
