Boost for my Automatic? D16Y8
Ok, bring on the flames!
I am thinking about boosting my automatic D16Y8 (97 ex)
I am under the impression that my block can probably handle 5-8 lb on stock internals.
My question is can my tranny? Its the 4 speed, and kinda peppy....not too shabby, but I don't wanna blow it. I have about 120k on the whole thing. How much boost can my auto tranny take?
THANKS FOR THE FLAMES

you can boost an automatic. It doesnt really make a difference. The thing is that you wont get the full potential of a turbo from having an automatic. ex. It changes gears way before it hit close to redline. With a 5spd you can get the full boost all the way close to redline and shift so you get maximum performance out of the turbo. I cant imagine the lag on the turbo is going to be. Maybe if you gone with a smaller turbo like the 14b or maybe a smaller T3 turbo would suit your needs. But I would recommend you swap out your tranny and just go with a manual tranny instead. My 2 cents

Re: Boost for my Automatic? D16Y8 (LemonLime)
if I keep the pedal on the floor (whichI can, when I'm racing) believe me, it hits the redline every gear. true, that wouldn't be so great for stop and go traffic, so does that mean DD = bad??
Thanks guys
