A LS will a GSR trans, is a great setup. very under estimated.
By BHP the b16a2 makes ~18 more hp and the b18b makes ~19 more torque.

Really, huh. I could have sworn it was more.

My friends b16a2, with intake,im, header and stock exhuast and tune made 142, and 102.
Perfect compression numbers, and it pulled very hard for what it was.

That's going off of wikipedia HP ratings. So take it with a grain of salt:

B16A2
o Displacement: 1,595 cc (97.3 cu in)
+ Bore×Stroke: 81.0×77.4 mm (3.19×3.05 in)
+ Compression: 10.2:1
+ Power: 160 hp (119 kW) @ 7600 rpm & 111 lb·ft (150 N·m) @ 7000 rpm
+ Transmission: Y21 or S4C
+ Redline: 8,000 rpm
+ Rev Limit: 8,450 rpm
+ VTEC Engagement: 5,600 rpm

B18B1
+ Displacement: 1,834 cc (111.9 cu in)
+ Compression: 9.2:1
+ Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
+ Stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in)
+ Rod Length: 137.01 mm (5.394")
+ Rod/Stroke Ratio: 1.54
+ Power: 142 hp (106 kW) @ 6300 rpm & 130 ft·lbf (180 N·m) @ 5200 rpm
+ Redline: 6800 rpm (7200 rpm on JDM Domani)
+ Rev Limit: 7200 rpm
+ Transmission: Y80/S80

And you're right, it is more: Edited:

I had a feeling it was a bit more. Depending on how healthy either motor is, I can see it going either way.

Well, I don't want to crush feelings, but dyno horse power means almost nothing unless the torque number is within 5% - 12%, or roughly close.

HP = WheelTorque * WheelRPM / 5252 - in a perfect world
HP * 5252 = WheelTorque * WheelRPM - same thing
Horse power and torque are basically two forms of describing the same thing (Mathematically).
Using Newton's Second Law (Physics), we know that F = ma. So we just rearrange the formula to solve for acceleration:
a = F / m

B18b1 = 8% difference between HP and torque
B16a2 = 30% difference between HP and torque

For example:
You can have two cars of the same weight and gearing in a 1/8 mile drag race. Change the HP and torque values to something like (car1 = 100hp/100tq) and (car2 = 150hp/40tq). There is a good chance the car with more torque will be faster... in a perfect world.

Mostly, it just irks me when people bench race high horse power numbers on small stroke engines. Since the B18b2 has more torque, I might be inclined to understand it is faster.

What’s different about 98 D16Y8 and the 2000 D16Y8 like plugs and other stuff I blew my engine and I’m about to get a engine out of a 98 but everyone told me that’s there’s different things

For whatever reason, one of the previous owners swapped in a D16y5 from a 2000 Civic DX/CX. This car is an EX so it should have a D16y8 in it, but sadly it does not. Seems the engine lacks power too.

I was looking at prices for a used replacement D16y8, but at this point, I don't know what was done previously to make the lowly D16y5 work in it. There is a check engine light for a code related to fuel tank pressurization... or was it charcoal canister pressure... something like that. Also, I installed a knock sensor and that code has gone away, just stuck with the fuel tank pressurization code.

="4"%What engine/trans can I swap in that would just bolt right up?
If I am going to replace the engine, I may as well put something in that has extra power. Was considering a B16 with VTEC, but how much trouble is that?

Thanks,
Triplelude
A B16 with VTEC huh? If I'm not mistaken, and I'm usually not, all b16's are VTEC.
