Bolt ons and horsepower gains
I have a 92 civic dx, 5spd, non vtec and recently rebuilt head because the bottom end didnt need it, and i just want it to be a little bit faster.. enough to take say a stock ford taurus, is there any way with bolt'ons i can make it have a bit more hp.. I read on some mugen ecus but would the fact that it changes my redline to 8200 mess up my engine?? I also read that header and a high flow cat makes a lil difference. I basically dont know what to buy.. What compression header and so on, help me plz!! thanks

I HAD to laugh at that man. That was funny. Set your aspirations a teeny bit higher than a stock ford taurus man . Here is a start for you
CAI/short ram,etc
Header
exhaust
cams
that is the relatively easy and least exspensive stuff.

Who let the n00bs out? You need to search first. You should be able to take a Taurus anyway. WTF is a compression header?
Basic bolt-ons gains will usually be minimal, especially with your **** ant motor. You should just save and get a motor swap.

Re: Bolt ons and horsepower gains (n0pinitr0us)
if you wanna beat those and more...i suggest a simple mini-me swap...search for it on here...Honda-techs awesome when it comes to answering questions...on occassion you'll get the *** comments, but eventually you'll find what you're looking for...mini-me man...it's cheap...fairly reliable...and you would notice a big difference in power...good luck on your goal!

Sorry about that, didn't mean to come off like an ***, although that's certainly what it appears to be...

You want to beat a stock Ford Tarus huh. The very first thing you need to do is buy the biggest wing spoiler you can find and install it ASAP...you will probably gain 25-30 hp. If that does not get you beating up on grandma's Tarus, buy a "Type R" sticker and put in on your left rear window, it must be on the left side for it to work. I did that on my car and I gained about 11 hp.

I know that a Taurus SHO or even a DOHC Taurus non-SHO will take a stock DX anyday. Stock for stock, you will get raped. Anyone that says otherwise, you're just fooling yourself.
Get your basic bolt ons:
Header
Intake
Exhaust
Cam
Remove A/C and P/S
But seriously, you'll still be slow. At least do a Mini-Me swap or do a complete D16Z6/D15B changeover. Better platform to work on and pretty cheap.

Wow. Just as the suggestions say go for basic bolt on or a small swap. Cost efficient and reliable. I figure he said Taurus cause he has a friend with a taurus that noobs him or something.

Re: (jerbear!)
A stock dx engine? bolt on's wont come close to being enough to beat a v6 or a 1.8 something taurus. I remember my dx engine with header/intake/exhaust and no cat....still slow as they come...like someone said get a vtec head and go mini me and then you might be able to pull that off

That would be correct. He has a long way to go though. I tired to set him in the right path but he kinda has a show first mentality. I told him to sell all his unneeded crap (like who the hell needs 4 12"s in a civc ) and the body kit and the second exhaust and 3 of those subs and he would have enough to at least fund a HMT style turbo setup or some nitrous.
