Default Bolt-ons for 1.6L SOHC

Well my car has been paid of for quite some time now and this is the time I told my self I would upgrade some of my engine components. I know I could do a swap but I am not interested then that now, but I am not opposed to a VTEC head swap. Have any of you done this and if so what did you do?

You won't see any noticeable gains from bolt-ons with a SOHC. Like said above, your best bet is to use some type of Forced induction.

Honestly, a mini me is a waste IMHO. Ask BauleyCivic. He did a huge writeup on it here, and he was more than dissapointed. Either save your money and drive it like it is, or boost it. Those are the only two real choices I'd say. Bolt ons you spend a ton of money to be noticed and not be any faster.

my butt dyno tells me otherwise , but seriously yea...i regret modding my d16z6 with bolt ons...spent way too much for such little gains.

Don't worry, I did the same thing. Home PnP job, portmatched and ported y8 intake mani, AEM ITR 3 inch CAI, DC 4-2-1, the works. Huge waste of time and money. I wish I'd gone straight to a turbo setup or just let the money make more money for me.

I understand completely, except I sourced all my components for next to nothing.

The boost will return to the mini-me at a future date....

Well, I appreciate the honest opinions. I am leaning that way too but I just needed to ask. Swaps are getting more inexspensive. As far as boosting it goes I think I rather do a swap.

yea...there are people that can handle the turbo as far as maintenance, but I look for reliability and less maintenance of an na too.

I'd have to agree just go straight to the boost setup ...

I'm running a mini-me w/ I/H/E & it's not the greatest but i guess it's came a long way from the B7 ... but i do think the mini-me let me down some but for a total 500 invested in my motor i guess i can't complain ... but go boost !

i kinda agree with everybody else you really can't get alot of horsepower out of a sohc engine with simple bolt on parts, do the the turbo. i my self have a 00' civic ex which has the d16y8 and i did a injen CAI, DC sport header thermal cat back exhaust and a B&M shifter and i droped 1.3 seconds of my 1/4 mile time. but now that i have had that on the car for a few months now im ready for more power so im lookin into the edelbrock turbo kit. good luck with your project

NA set-ups aren't any more reliable than turbo set-ups. If the NA engine has been tuned fairly half assed and the turbo engine was tuned well, the Turbo will be much more reliable. Yes the turbo has a little bit more stuff in the engine bay, hence a little more maintance (only if something brakes). But tuning is key with any built engine.

Why isn't a turbo reliable?

My car has almost 104k miles on it, and the turbo kit has been on for almost 34k miles now. Two years being boosted!

You wont get 175whp on a B series swap, and I can turn up the boost to get 200-210 whp, but I need to fix my ignitor in the dizzy, as mine is now shot.
