i have some rust on the rear quater panel and i need to get my car painted. just looking for some quick pointers.

Now dont i just need to get some Bondo, put it on, sand it down, and primer?

which grade of sand paper should i use to do it and what is the best type of bondo?

If its surface rust just sand it down with some 80 grit or 150grit. Id use 80 to get the rust off quicker. Youll have to sand around the area as rust will hide under paint. So sand it down and if the metal is straight you shouldnt need bondo. Just "feather" the area with 150 grit then get some etch primer and bring it to your painter. Etch primer will soak up moisture so you can put primer sealer over it if your gonna roll like that for a while. Etch primer is used when priming bare metal. I believe epoxy primers work too. Whats the best "bondo"? Well I wont name any brands but go to a local paint supllier and ask them. Heres what Ive noticed when doing body work. The most expensive stuff is worth it if you got a lot of area to due because it applies easier and sands of 10x better than ultra cheap stuff. Cheap stuff dries up like cement and you end up using more sang paper which ends up costing almost as much as if you got the spendy stuff. for sand paper try and 3m stuff. It works pretty good.

he nailed it... make sure you feather it really well or you may be able to notice the surface difference
