Blown motor???
 

i "had" a 95 DX with an EX motor for awhile now and this past summer, one morning when i went to start it up, it ran fine for about 5 seconds then "slowly" died as i pressed on the clutch. after that it woundn't crank over but i figured it was something in the clutch jamming up against the starter somehow because i heard something snap and felt a grinding noise on the pedal. and just before that happened, the tranny wound slightly grind when shifted as though the clutch wasn't pressed in all the way. anyways, i finally got around to it recently and took it apart but the clutch and tranny seemed normal but the motor was completely locked up. i haven't open up the motor but it doesn't seem to be a broken rod because it woundn't give at all either direction. i'm assuming the pistons siezed up but how? at any rate, i'll probably never get to the bottom of this... just picked up a gsr so i'll probably end up getting rid of it soon. but i'm still curious... anybody have any idea on what might of happened?

could be a number of mechanical or electrical failures... hydrolock, piston seizure, battery, tranny, mainbearings, rod bearings, wristpin failure... list goes on... need more specific info to tell

yes, i drained the motor before pulling it out of the car and the oil looked fine. my guess is the piston seized up too but i don't understand how this could of happened. the motor was cold and i knew better than to be reving it. anyways, i'll be having a bunch of parts including the shell to get rid of so if anyone intersted, let me know.

Can you turn the motor over by hand?

If not, I'd pull the head (super simple to do, especially on a sohc) and see if its the head or bottom end that's siezed.

I've seen lots of siezed cams because of oil starvation.

i'm sure it's not the head. i've tried turning the motor over with a breaker bar on the pulley bolt and that bolt loosened instead, considering how tight that is. it's something in the block for sure. something more then just the bearings because it is not going to budge. my question is how?
