Default blown motor

i was riding with my friend with a 95 honda civic with a 1.5 l sohc auto. and we were riding along we heard something that sounded like an exhaust leak and then we heard bangin and it backfired and he car shut off on the highway ( we were driving normal at 65 ) and then he pulled over and he poped the hood white smoke was rollin out of the block. What did he do? He doesnt have the internet so i gotta help him out. I think its a blown motor. if so what u think he should get? its already decided for the 5 speed swap. and hes thinking b16a2 what u guys think?

Perhaps the timing belt did break... There is a chance that the motor is salvagable. Pending on what RPM you were at when the belt broke.

If it's just a D15, it isn't that expensive to just get the same motor... One or Two hundred would do the trick more than likely.

I'd say go with that for now, and worry about the other motor swap later. If he doesn't have the money for a swap... Why try and do one? You'll just end up with a bigger problem, that's not worth solving.

Keep it simple and stock until you have enough money to do it right.

Just my opinion.

the belt didnt break i seen the belt to the crank ( timing bellt ) and its tight plus he did get it started the motor banged back and forth and you could hear **** bangin around and after like 2 min it shut off. But see his dad offered to co sign for him a toyota truck. then he called his dad back saying he wanted an new si and he wud get better gas mileage and itys cheaper so i think him and his dad are going when we get back from the beach to get a car.

Pull the radiator cap off and see if there's any coolant in there. That sounds a whole lot like what happened when my blew up my '84 BMW. Car had a coolant leak that I didn't now about and ended up seizing the block.

When he was driving was it like a loud puttering noise and then the car jerked, lots of white smoke behind you?
