Default blew type r motor need advice

ok well i blew my type r motor, the #2 piston dome hit the bottom tip of the spark plug and sheared it apart. well i still have my lsd tranny and cams form the headand also the intake manifold. i can get a 1st gen b16 long block for 600 bux just the head and block no tranny and no distributor which i dont really need anyways cuz i have all that stuff form my r motor. could i put the 1st gen with my lsd tranny in my hatch and turbo it? i mean i am scared to turbo a motor that old, but i have many friends that have supercharged 1st gen b16 running 12 lbs with the jackson super charger no problems. my advice i need is is this a good idea and if so what would you replace on teh b16 before turboing it? like timing belt and water pump and what else? thanx for any advice

i really dont want to do any inda of ls/vtec or b20/ vtec or any kind of ls or b20 turbo setup. thanx for your idea though. i was just wondering that if i turbo the 1st gen b16, what is a safe boost psi to run on it daily? or will the 1st gen blow easily with turbo as well. i have seen so many peopl eturbo their stock 1st gen b16 no problem on stock internals and others have had bad luck i dont know what to do

apparently the shop that diagnost the problem said it looked like i mis shifted but i know for a fact i didnt and i never went above 8000 rpms at the time when the motor died on me. i have only had the motor running for about 3 weeks now so i think a combo if me running it real hard and possibly me getting a nasty motor that was beat on by the previous jdm owner (its a 96 jdm ITR motor) thats why it blew.

How badly is the motor blown? Is the head and block still somewhat useable? Any pictures? Sucks about your motor though, especially after just 3 weeks of ownership

tell me about it. tonight im gonna tear the head off and see how much damage is done. i know the motor is not seized up because it cranks but it doesnt turn over, so that menas there arent any holes in the block at the worst it will need a new #2 piston and a new head because the valves are probably bent, the cams should be still good though. im thinking of keeping the cams and intake manifold and swapping them onto a 1st gen b16.

You can run about 6 lbs of boost safely on the first generation b16. They hold up pretty good and you will definitely want to change out the timeing belt before you boost it. Just putting the itr cams and manifold over will give you some good power to hold you over for a while until you turbo it...And if you're lucky, the head will still be in good shape with just bent valves...I have a b16 head sitting right next to me that just have two bent valves after a rod snaps. The pistons came up and bent the valves, but did no damage to the chambers...Only the sleeve crack in that cylinder...

I would sugest pulling that motor apart and seeing what exactly is wrong with your block and head. And from that point decide which direction you will go with it. It might be cheaper to redo that motor from top to bottom then the get a b16 block and turbo it.

also is it safe to say that the b16 has a lot less torque than the ITR and GSR motors, but top end they will make about the same power with the ITR cams and intake manifold? i will still be using my lsd trannyon this motor so off the line i shoudl get a good launch.

anyone else have a guestimate on HP increase on a b16 with ITR cams and manifold? i mean if the 2nd gen jdm b16 makes 170 wouldnt the 1st gen with ITR cams and manifold be abvout the same maybe a litle higher?

Each motor is different but with itr cams and manifold, I would say about 10-15 whp..Maybe more or less depending on the milage and condition of the b16....I would definitely tear down your motor first before I do anything....I would not be surprise at all if it relative cheap to fix....YOu might not have to do anything more than to replace some valves and maybe a pistons if you're lucky...Let's hope you're lucky since you only had the motor for 3 weeks!

well how does this sound to you guys. if i had one bad piston, and bent valves, would the motor even crank. because it cranks now but doesnt turn over, if i had bent valves and a bad piston, i thoght the motor wouldnt even crank at all. also if i have bent valves does that mean i need a new head? or can i just get new valvesa and retainer springs? and if i have to replace the pistons which should i go with since this is an R motor i want to keep that high compression, will i have to get the block resleeved?

Resleeve the ITR block and use the head (if salvagable). If not look for a B16 head and get a P&P.

If you go to a B16 you'll be pissed off. And don't use anyone in GA for your engine work.
