Blew my D16Y8 in my 97 Civic EX. And I will Have $3,500 to spend getting it fixed. What should I do
I won't be able to afford a B18c1 swap, so I am thinking about doing a rebuild, but maybe with high compression pistons, cam, etc. (headwork)
My motor went out , I think because by oil pump went out and I fried it-LOUD clacking noise followed by "da-dump!".
I live in Dallas and will either need someone to do it for me or with me, who knows what they are doing. My AC is out also-Needs a new compressor.
Anyone want to help me, or willing to help with this project?
I already have a $1,600 bid to do a rebuild, if my core is ok, if not, them it goes up to $2,000.
I figure as long as it's getting rebuilt, lets make it bullet proof and more powerful!!!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

i think you can do a b16 or maybe ls/b20vtec within your budget...thats what I'd go for unless you're set on keeping the sohc

buy a b18c1 and do your own install .. if you are to scared to attempt a swap.. then go for a b16 and let someone else put it in for you!!.. remeber just like the alphabet... b will always be ahead of d

Can you NOT read dipshit?
He said he couldn't afford it.

Get a B18B you can pick one of those swaps up for around 2000-2500, do that and have some money left over for some parts. Rebuilding a D16Y8 is not worth 3,500 unless your gonna do...DART block, pistons, rings, rods, valve train and a GReddy Turbo Kit puttin out 10+ PSI...that would be sick but...i think LS would be the way to go. If not, you could still pull off a B16 or B18 VTEC motor... Its up to you.

Built d- series turbo will cost the same as a stock b series.
So if he cant afford A b-series how is he going to afford to build the d-series and then boost it?

Not really. when you build the D series, you don't have to get mounts, axels, tranny, or any of the other parts assocatied with a swap.

my thoughts exactly. Build the D series for boost. For the same amount of money you spend (Maybe around 3-5 grand) on building your motor and a nice turbo, you'd have only a b series swap and maybe a thousand left over. Not to mention that a built sohc will punish a stock dohc

I threw a rod bearing in my 96 civic, and I'll be doing a B18B swap. Engine will be $2400 for a complete changeover swap.

Anyone charging you $2k for a d16 is ****** nuts. You can buy a lightly used d16y8 for $700-800 easily. I would do that, then you have almost 3k for a sick turbo set up. If you wanna stay NA then use that $3500 and go buy a b18c1. Check shops in your area about prices. I know around here you can get a motor installed for the same cost as you can buy it off line.

I paid $2,100 for my COMPLETE b16 swap included all parts (mounts tranny, ecu, axles, etc) So Still less then his $3,500 budget

Not on his budget it won't. Figure after the cost of the build (remember he's paying for labor) Anything left would maybe be enough for a basic turbo set-up. He's not going to have a built 400whp sohc turbo for $3,500.
