there is black **** coming from my exhaust and its speckled on my rear bumper but im not burning any oil? so what is it then? I put on a different exhaust to see if it made a change and it did a little bit. Im going to get ngk iridium plugs which hopefully will help but other than that i dont know what to do. any suggestions?

black smoke is usually caused by overfuelling so id check the likes of the injectors first. is there much done with the engine??

i've got the same thing on my '93 hatch. its very annoying.
after i wash my car the rear is dirty within 30 minutes of driving...
it might have something to do with having aftermarket exhaust.
a tune might solve this issue i think.

Black = Fuel. Too rich. Check your fuel pressure, over pressure = black smoke. And check your injector's and your cat, black could also be caused because your cat is burned up and not burning excess fuel properly. Too rich is good when your romping on it though, means your motor will run cooler, leaner is running hotter but no smoke, black is running cooler with smoke.

its non vtec i have a cat. it could be a p.o.s but i havent checked it out. im not throwing any cels but im gonna try plugs. my car is hesitating around 3000rpms i think my shitty plug(s) could have something to do with not burning up all the fuel. start with the cheapest parts first.

what year is the car? if its OBD1 your car wont throw a CEL for a bad cat because there is no secondary o2 sensor.
