what's wrong with your stock headlights? why not paint those? cause you can always buy new ones

the stock would function much better then the ebay. Use Plast-x or something similar to make your headlights clear again, then put the work into baking and painting. IMO gunmetal looks hella better then black, mine look like dark chrome and I get lots of compliments.

ebay lights are not a rip off, only if you get pos lights.
get the ctr replica lights but be sure they are the ones made by depo, they are the best quality

^^ true, and if u want that smoked chrome color, u can only buy that. Otherwise save 100 bucks and sand your lights down + paint it any color u want

These are my ebay gunmetal type-r headlights on my unpainted new fenders and bumper w/ crappy fitting VIS oem hood. Bought the headlights from ebay cuz i had to not by choice but it turned out great, it's more of a dark chrome then gunmetal paint. You can tell by looking at the actual part around the bulb, it's chrome vs the housing which is gunmetal.

300 grit, 500 grit, 1000 grit, 2000 grit, and polish your stock headlights.

They will look brand new.

Then bake em and paint em.

Is that sanding sequence for the outside lens, or for preparing the inside part of paint?

don't mean to jack the thread .. but i was thinking of just getting the gunmetal ebay headlights for my 97 .. i've heard theyre good.. and look pretty good too

but a question about painting the stock ones ..

How can you paint them gunmetal, but still get somewhat of a shiny finish .. i wouldnt want them to look flat

the only bad thing about my ebay headlights are the glare and you can definately see it cuz i have hids in. if you were going to paint your housing, it'll probably just require a good coat of paint then sanding and polish to get it glossy. It's like painting your car just on your housing.

Another vote for Painting your stockers. Mine where way oxidized so i sanded them down and polished the clear plastic then i painted the inside. Looks great. never leaks.

how did you get the oxidaition off??

i'm looking at doing that to my headlights but how do you polish the lens? what type of polish do you use?

wouldn't sanding the headlights scratch the plastic?

I used automotive sand paper. Started with 300 grit and worked my way to 200 grit. then finished it off with a buffer and Plastix Polish.

I've used that plast-x stuff before too, work great but you gotta put the effort into it. I'd vote to paint your stock as well but maybe paint gunmetal and polish it to glossy instead of just black. The more work you put into it the better it'll look. To answer your question, the stock headlights have a much better beam pattern then the ebay ones which are scattered all over and that unwanted scattered pattern is glare.

How can you tell which ebay replicas are the better ones?
