Black Grease on wheel/brakes - and pics of my car
Warning:1st time posting pics, they might need to be resized!!!
Today, while I was under my car changing the oil, I look over at my front passenger wheel, and the inside was covered in black grease along with part of the brakes. I am trying to figure out what could be wrong. Also, is it normal for the piece behind the rotor to be so warped? TIA.
Edit - took pictures out until I could resize them.

Re: Black Grease on wheel/brakes - and pics of my car (spoonspeed)
what if the black grease is on the OUTSIDE of the rims??
i did have some of it on my rims on the outside... i thought it was just dirt..
anyways, now i have another problem, my suspension would make some noise when pushed down... like.. when I drive through on uneven roads, it would make noise
then when I use my hands to push my suspension down, it will make that sound again.. would that be my axles??
damn.. i am too busy to check all these stufff !!
how hard is it to change CV boots??
thanks

ok check this out...same thing happened to me...it was the cv boot that was torn so grease got sprayed all over. Ok but the grease was the least of my concern as to the cause of the boot tearing:
I was driving home from work late one night, and I come across this little black creature trying to cross the road. My headlights clearly startled it, and it because appearant that this was a skunk. It froze in the middle of the road, stood upside down in its instinctive defense stature, and started to spray. Just as this occured, my front left tire wasted the damn thing. The poor little bastard got caught all up in the meat grinding area in my wheel well, around the rotors, etc etc. I got home and saw all kinds of black and white fur stuck to various parts of the suspension, not to mention a putrid stench that didn't go away for weeks. I had to clean ground up skunk guts from my wheel, brakes, and suspension. Not to mention, cooked skunk guts, cause all that stuff gets pretty got.
The skunk tore my cv boot.

CV boots,
Now if you make a sharp turn and you hear clicking sounds... then your axle needs to be replaced.
It looks like an easy fix, but its a messy pain in the ***... I had it done for $170 a couple years back, and everything has been fine since.

You need to replace your cv boots. You might want to just replace the whole axle, it is alot easier

re-manufactured axles are prepacked! no mess there...
axle swaping is an easy but time consuming job....

good luck.

Re: (TurBoXBirD16)
well depend if you wanted to replace the cv boot! if the outer cv boot need to replace you have remove the inner cv boot and the balancer doughnut to get to the outer cv boot. i would go ahead a get and buy a new axle. cause you have to buy an outer cv boot then the band for balancer doughnut, the inner cv boot and maybe the tool, but you can you die cutter to tighten the band by then. it would cost as much as the new axle. just my 50cent

If it's your brake dust shield you're talking about, then yes. That gets banged up all the time. just keep it bent away from the rotor so you don't hear any wierd noises.

Time is money...axles take a lot less time to change than cv joints or boots. $145 for a new axle shipped for me. Takes less than an hour (unless you have trouble removing the axle) and replace the seals while your there...couldn't hurt.

Re: (seppuku)
yeah, i would just take your old axles to autozone or advance auto parts, or somethingl ike that, and have them give you some new ones for like $50-$60 bucks each, and then replace them yourself...save some more money....and i would replace the axle seals too since you are already going to be down there...get a 2fer (2 for 1)...good luck...
