Default Bike racks

Hey everyone. I have a 97 coupe and I want to bring my 2 bikes (road and mountain) back home to NC with me for the summer (I'm in college in Miami). Anyone know of a good bike rack that won't scratch up my paint or dent my trunk? I wanted a Thule roof rack but they cost around $600 when all is said and done. That's just too much. Thanks!

i used to race bmx all over the country and hollywood racks were what we all used for around the local circuit when we were in town (very rarely) but they have thick pipe padding for the rack contact on your bumper and your trunk. they can hold 2 MTB bikes easily and they fold away for easy storage. i think they were 59.99 for the racks. sure we had all the cool stuff for plane travel and even extra bikes in our touring trucks and rigs but for around town the hollywood was what we used. bet you thought it would be a long shot that one of us on here would know so much about a particular rack for you huh? LOL

Thanks Ricksautomotive, I'll check them out!

@ Runjdm, Miami is an awesome vacation spot, I just don't think it's the best place to live.

I use a Rhode Gear bike rack. I use it when I travel to NC with my mountain bike. I took the padding from another bike rack. It's adaptable to most vehicles.

Why would you put a bike rack on just for looks or did I miss something?

People get the roof racks for looks. They do look sweet but I really need to carry my bikes!

I'm a little scared of really cheap ones. I remember when I was little my parents had a Volkswagon and it got banged up from the rack they had. My dad was upset about it.

bike racks are sooooo jdm (notice sarcasm). anyways, to OP, i had a yakima roof rack on my car and it worked great and didnt leave any scratches. i actually found some people selling roof rack parts on craigslist and pieced it together. let me know if you need any help, cuz after piecing it together, i now know a ton of useless info regarding yakima roof racks.

If I get it, I'll just need the bike trays and mount kit for my Civic... the mount kit is about $70 new, so hopefully I can find a deal on one.
