White smoke = burning coolant, probably blown headgasket
Blue smoke = burning oil, probably poor piston ring seal or leaking valve stem seals
Black smoke = Running rich, get your car tuned with a FRP and a VAFC.

yeah b19civic is correct. also does the car smoke only at high rpms??? if so your most likely running rich. with a head gasket leak and piston rings your car will smoke continuosly. I had a jrsc teg and when I took off the blower I didn't turn down the fpr enough and my car would smoke at high rpms. also check the timing of your car. make sure it's not off too much.

If your car is running rich it smells MUCH different than if it is burning oil or coolant. Rich smells like a lawnmower, almost like raw fuel. if the smoke is white, you'll smell the antifreeze.

Oh, just hope the smoke is black and not blue or white.... the latter two arent fun to fix...

Timing also could affect that. Get a timing gun and check it out. Timing being off wouldnt throw a code 1 though...

my girlfriends 94 ex had the same problem and it ended up being a blown head gasket which also fried two radiators, and it all started with a leaking water pump, so check that also. good luck.

Jep.. my '94 D16Z6 with 142,000 miles smoking at high rpm also... see photo.. This is definately oil, as I lose about a quart every 3 days under "hard" driving. Where it is leaking into the combustion chamber from is yet to be known. (Not that I care much, the whole thing is going to be rebuilt next year).. oh also, it spits MAD BLACK CRAP out the exhaust and it stains everything. Watery sooty carbony black crap. Good luck!
