big problem! d15b swap

I swapped my jdm d15b vtec into my 92 civic dx hatchback and it is running. it has a rough idle, and bad throttle response. the timing is on at idle when you start the car, but then you hit the gas and it will start idleing rough after that and be out of time. i do not have a vtec ecu, i just have the stock one. Oh, and when driving you can not maintain a constant speed, itll jerk. please help

TPS and MAP switched?

Try running a VTEC ECU?

Run the correct ECU then get back to us.

mnneon 09-25-2005 05:32 PM

ok, thanks, ill do that

Re: (mnneon)

I had this problem with mine when i did my swap i had a couple of wiring harness plugs mixed up. i would go through and check that first, there should be one extra plug for the charcol canister that you no longer need.

Re: (IA95civicDX)

which ones were messed up?

civic_driver 09-25-2005 07:01 PM

yep, get the correct ECU...that's your problem

mnneon 09-25-2005 08:02 PM

i just ordered it

mnneon 09-26-2005 09:09 PM

could it be the tps? air pockets in the coolant? anything else i can trouble shoot until my ecu comes?

GdmLaz 09-26-2005 09:32 PM

when you get the new ecu plug it in reset it and you shouldn't have no check engine light if you got 1 then go from there may be sensors plugged in backwards

Re: (Slammed92hbonN20)

most definitely your ecu.
relax untill you get the new one, and if the problem persists let us know https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

mnneon 09-26-2005 10:24 PM

k, thanks everyone! i hope it all works out.

mnneon 09-30-2005 07:44 PM

the timing is way off i think. that is the problem

coquitlamEG 09-30-2005 08:36 PM

it's not your ecu. I've done this swap a few times and kept the stock ecu with an rpm activated switch to engage the vtec and everything worked just fine. Did you lengthen the coolant temperature sensor wires and plug it in?

Re: (coquitlamEG)

Check the cam timing while you're at it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

That would run like crap. No vtec maps means you are not getting the performance the engine is supposed to get. Yes, you are engaging vtec but on the stock maps http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

You've obviously never done this swap before. He said it even runs rough at idle. Both motors are the same size and would run perfectly fine off the same ecu. The vtec ecu would definatly give a little more fuel in vtec but wouldn't even come close to explaining the problems he's having.

um, no you're not dude. I would explain, but I'm tired and pgmfi.org never sleeps https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Slammd Sol 09-30-2005 09:10 PM

If your runing a P06 ecu (you stated you have a DX civic) then the ECU is Not the problem. I have run my P06 on my D15b without any problems (other then having no vtec)

mnneon 09-30-2005 10:06 PM

the motor runs the same with the p06 and the p28 from phaerable.net or whatever...

i don't know how to change the cam timing. i know how to do the dizzy but not the cam. i changed the timing belt so i think i didn't do right.
is it bad to drive when timing is off?

mnneon 09-30-2005 10:08 PM

coolant temp sensor? everything fit without extending. although i do have 1 extra plug, it is the same amount of pins as the iacv sensor

mnneon 10-01-2005 06:57 PM

got the timing set woohoo. runs good, just need a new 02 sensor

..except that it's not engaging VTEC. gratz on fixing your prob https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
