Default better mpg swap

I am looking to puchase a new civic as a daily driver to get teh best mpg and i was wondering the best swap to do this. Can i use a d16y5 head on a d16y8 or just swap teh cam and computer and o2 sensor. Also are the pistons in a d16y8 different then the ones in a d16y5? Let me know of any ideas. Thanks

D15Z1 with the 5-wire (wideband) O2 and 49 state emissions P07.
I used to get 40-45mpg in town, 50+ on the highway.

accelerate quickly and high mpg do not tend to work together.
VX/P07/D15Z1 - 92hp@5500 97ft/lbs@4500
since you're working with OBD2, you can stick with the HX setup. D16Y5 with the P2N and wideband O2. But still pull in 115hp@6200 104ft/lbs@5400
But the Z1 will get you better mpg figures.

Also keeping your foot away from the firewall will drastically increase your mpg.

If you're picking up a new civic as a daily driver, why not pick up an HX or VX and enjoy it as is?

Z1 ftmfw. and if you wanted a little more pep without sacrificing too much MPG, id reccommend an si transmission with closer gear ratios.

if you're going to use the stock ECU and hope that the lean burn mode that gets the HX/VX's higher mpg ratings then I wouldn't mess with the engine at all. If you want to convert to OBD1 and have it tuned then you can do what ever you want, but you're not going to have the lean burn mode.

does anyone know where i can get a y5 ecu, cam, roller, rockers, and o2 sensor
also i was wondering if the vtec would idle fine even thought the pistons are not dished as much (2.12 vs 2.7) with the swirl in the head and also if the compression ratio would hurt or help the idle, but i think it would run fine thanks

I know only a little about the Y5, but if it's anything like the Z1 you can't simply slap on the ECU, cams and O2 to get the right combination.
There is a lot to the way the combustion chamber is shaped to keep the swirl correct to be able to run as lean as it does down the road and not melt things.

I could be wrong about all this talk that I've done in this thread, but combustion chamber temps are not something that is easily to monitor. EGTs are about the only thing you can go by, but if you're not tuning and things are wrong... you will make holes in pistons fast.

this will mark the end of my replies to this thread.
