Better Intake MANIFOLD for D16Y8

Well, Please tell me, which Intake MANIFOLD (from Y8 or Z6) is better for D16Y8 engine? I have a D16Y8 in my EG Civic.

y8, i hear a lot of people call it the type R intake manifold for D series motors. it has shorter something, forgot the word. I just know its better. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif keep it on there, and your tb, you can get a b18 tb, but it dosnt help that much....just how they say 'being a full throttle ahead' which i never understood. keep the IM you have, keep the engine...its probably the best stock setup (USDM) for a D series to go with. I mean z6's head has better flow...BLAH BLAH...y8 has higher compression i think? 127hp.....

GET THAT 300 SHOTOF NAAAAWWWWZZZZZ , let me hear it go boom. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif jk

yes, the y8 IM is the "R IM" of the SOHCS. if oyu want sometihng aftermarket go w' a skunk2. the y8 has larger runners than the z6.

The only performance difference in the intake manifolds is the plenum size. The Y8 has a larger plenum than the Z6, other than that, they are identical except for how things attach to the manifold. The runner length and size are exactly the same.

A better aftermarket choice is the Edelbrock Peformer X manifold. Better than the stock manifolds and the Skunk.

y8 is the best d series intake manifold and u can mate it with an ls or b20 tb for some cheap power.

Re: Better Intake MANIFOLD for D16Y8 (marissio)

theres a write up about this topic written by the user "spade"...basically, yes, if your going with a honda manifold, the y8 is the way to go, i believe it has shorter? runners and also a larger plenum size, if you want to get a little better performance, edelbrock has the victor x for the d-series motors now, skunk2 also makes one, but from what i've read, the skunk2 has a lot of fitment problems, and you have to adjust your fuel levels to get really good numbers out of it, i'd say go with the edelbrock and a type r throttle body or even a gs-r throttle body, and the manifold also accepts larger throttle bodies ( i wanna say up to 68mm, but i could and probably am wrong ), but theres no need to have it port matched, and they're not even that expensive (a shop around here sells it for 250+-) https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

whatever you do, good luck and keep us posted https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I know someone who has measured the volume of the runners and this is not true. I will post a link up to the thread when I get home from work. It's on SOHCHONDA.com if anyone wants to go on there and search for it now.

Re: Better Intake MANIFOLD for D16Y8 (RyanCivic2000)

I found this Y8 intake manifold on ebay for $30 Buy-it-Now so I jumped on it, cuz they usually go for a lot more. It was so cheap that I just couldn't pass it up.

http://www.thezcresource.com/gallery...ld_001-med.jpg

I cleaned it up a little bit, and pulled off the throttle body, brackets, and hoses.

http://www.thezcresource.com/gallery...ld_005-med.jpg

Then I painted it gloss black with some hi-temp paint. The hi-temp paint probably isn't necessary, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

http://www.thezcresource.com/gallery...ld_013-med.jpg

Look at this idiot posing with an intake manifold! Oh, wait... that's me.

http://www.thezcresource.com/gallery...ld_010-med.jpg

I just ordered some red wrinkle paint from Summit. I couldn't find that stuff anywhere locally. I'm gonna use it to paint the valve cover. I'm trying to maintain the red/black scheme throughout the whole car. I just need some red silicone couplers for the CAI.

Anyway, what's my best option for a throttle body? Should I stick with the Z6, use the Y8, or maybe port the manifold to use a B-series TB. Any other suggestions?

I had one of those packard Bell's computers...pOs.

Here is the Y8 vs. Z6 intake manifold thread I was talking about. You guys really need to check it out. It has more tech info on the subject than I have seen anywhere else.

Re: Better Intake MANIFOLD for D16Y8 (brentmc79)

just remember u want a manual intake manifold for a z6 swap, because u need the iacv on the intake manifold

and if u have a y7 u want the auto manifold because u want the iavc on the throttle body like the stock y7.
