Best wheel size for a 96 Civic cx
So I just picked up a 1996 honda civic cx hatch. It comes with 13" steel wheels and I cant decide if I should put on the 15" ls mesh I have or spend some money to get some 14". Its only got like 100 horses and no power steering, will the 15 be a problem? I can pick up some bottle caps for pretty cheap right now but is it worth it? Or am I just being paranoid.

I put some federal formoza fd1 165/55/14 tires on a hx wheel..... Night and day. The acceleration is impeccable I can't even explain. Chirped 2nd on a tired *** d15 aha.
I mean you could pick the wheel up with a pinkie. Couldn't have been over 9-10 ibs. That alone made me fast IMO. So if you want acceleration I'd go with that but it will drop the car down a bit but if your only moderately or not even lowered you'll be fine.
Otherwise bf goodrich, pirelli, falken, Yokohama, and kuhmo all have some great tires.

You can use a wheel calculator and find the tires that will end up with the same size diameter for different rim sizes. If the width of the tire stays the same, then a 15" rim with a tire that has the same diameter as the stock 13" tire, then there will be next to no difference as far as torque drain and turn-ability etc.
There could be the slightest difference in those items based on the tire stickiness but it should be so slight, you won't notice.
Increasing diameter is going to impact take off torque. Weight will also impact take off torque. And tire width will impact overall power to road as well as can impact turn-ability.
I believe a wider tire might be just a touch harder to turn, cause a touch more drag on cruising speeds but add a fair amount of added grip, far outweighing the slight drains it may incur.
Simply, there is not one simple straight answer. The technical aspects are an interconnected web of factors. Changing one aspect affects several others.

I would put on the LS mesh and some decent tires.
FWIW I have blades and 195/55/15 Yokohama's.
No problems with no PS, rides well, looks good.
