Best way to import rhd ek9 from Dominican Republic to USA
Hey fellas i got a ordeal here
I own a rhd ek9 in dominican republic and i wana bring it to the usa what would be the best way i know us customs does not allow ek9s in because they are prohibited due to all the gay us emissions laws and other bullshit laws they have here
I have been told that if i get a 20 ft container
Take out engine take out seats bumpers etc and shove em in the container as parts that it will get tru customs
My question is do i have to cut the chassis in half? Or can i strip it and just trow it in there with all the other parts
If it does arrive
How do i register should i get a another rolling chassis and register with that vin ?
If anybody has done this bfore or knows anyone that has please lmk
I wana bring this car over

My CTR is registered here but I picked it up already registered..I'm not sure its even possible to get them registered here anymore even if you know the right people. Like mentioned in the link above there's no real legal way to register it. But I'm not sure if it would be different because you already own the car

My understanding is that most of the grey-market importers do just what you are considering...remove the engine and ship them separated in a container. I'm not sure if the engine has to be in a separate container from the car or not. You don't need to cut up the chassis. When you pick up your "parts", you are free to put the engine back in.
As far as getting it registered, you'll have to know a cop or someone at the DMV. Even if you do manage it, it'll always be a risk if you get pulled over and the cop decides to be a d1ck.
Best bet...wait until 2023...you'll be able to import one legally as the 25-year rolling law will allow it.

Why would you ruin a perfectly good EK9 by stripping it and converting a LHD to RHD, especially after going through all the trouble of shipping the RHD car (and a pretty desirable one at that)? There are plenty of JDM dealers out there selling conversions so that you don't have to go through the immense hassle of shipping a vehicle. I just hate to see a perfectly good EK9 ruined like that.
Just import it as a race car. Sure you won't be able to register it, but at least it will get here in one piece and, should you tire of it, will have a LOT better resale value than if you gut it. The USDM vehicle that you convert will have a FRACTION of the value of a real EK9.

This is the 3rd thread on this same topic in as many weeks. I'm sure nothing has changed since the last time the subject was broached. Read the links in post #3.
