Default Best Turbos for a B15

Hey Guys,

I don't know much about Hondas as I drive a '95 3000GT VR4, but I have a few questions you guys might be able to help me out on. I'm looking into the t3, t3/t4 and t4 turbos out there. Since most of them seemed to be used on turbo Hondas, I thought I would ask here.

Since the B15 is a 1.5 liter and that is what I would have going to each turbo, what setup are you guys seeing the best results with? I need about 350-400hp per turbo and I need them to reach 18psi by 4000 RPMs. I've got an 8 to 1 compression, so my spool up would be slower, but I not sure by how much.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I think he is meaning since a Honda engine is about a 1.5L and his motor is a 3.0L but with a turbo off each bank, what turbos work good with our motors would be good for his application X2 of course.

There is way more than engine displacement to judge which turbo is best for your car. Honda engines flow alot of air, more than alot of motors. Since all a engine is is a air pump, Honda motors make alot of power out of a small displacement. Your 3000GT may not flow as well as a Honda motor and the t3/t4 some people use may have lots of lag on your car.

Or at least I think so

I get what he's saying, he's saying that 2-D15B7's-1.5 liters=his 6g72's-3 liters. So he is asking what turbo set-up gets the most power out of the D15, what size turbos are the best to get 700hp.

Just get 2 14b turbos (1G dsm). They will bolt right up to your manifold, 18lbs before 4k, and you will reach you hp goal. Also, they are very cheap

Is a VR4 with a stock bottom end going to take 600+HP? Plus just upgrading the turbos isn't going to cut it, he needs fuel, exhaust and a fmic upgrade.

Maybe, but I wouldn't trust a Mitsubishi motor - or transmission.

Default thanks guys...

Thanks for the replies guys (sorry it took so long for me to get back to it).

nsxmatt had it right. I'm looking for a starting point on the t3/t4 turbos. Since they are used a lot on the Honda platform, I though this would be a good place to look.

I understand there is a lot more then just displacement involved here, but you can get a lot from real world results that don't show up in flow charts and turbo specs.

I tried searching in the FI section before I posted here, but nothing really turned up on a 1.5 turbo setup. Does anyone know of person on this board that has a turbo 1.5 that I could talk to directly?

The stock bottom end will take 600hp no problem. As will the tranny. The transfer case is the weak link and as long as we don't dump the clutch, we can keep them around for a while. We may have some aftermarket support in that area soon as well! I've attached my sig pic this time so you can see the supporting mods I already have. The FMIC is coming this winter as well.

Tradmark, the 350-400 hp per turbo would turn into about 600~ awhp on my car. We have a lot of drive train loss Also, I could have bought a Supra if I had wanted one, but living in CO the AWD is nice during the winter. Not to mention that I own my Supra friends (similar mods) on the street and run just as fast as them at the track until they put the slicks on..lol

brryder, the 14Bs are tdo5 turbos and the stock VR4 manifolds are td04, so they would require new headers as well (t3/t4 will too). Also, from some of the guys running 14b on these cars, they don't hit the HP mark for us.

clm, I'm al long time member of 3si.org I go by Moboroshi on there

You'll have trouble finding much information on 1.5 litre setups since people don't often turbocharge them. I'd say look up on 1.6 litre setups. Also, try lookin up T60-1 as that's one of the biggest turbos I've heard people running.
