Which is the best swap???
Hi there. I have a friend who just bought a 97 civic with a SOHC engine. He wants to do a swap. What is the best and easiest swap??? A b18c type r a good swap to do??? He is also planning to turbo charge it, so what would be the best engine to choose??? Please, help us on such a dilema.

personally, i wouldn't turbo charge a type r motor, its classic the way it is. i would use a b18c1 (gsr) motor if you're going forced air. hope that helps

That was origional
Tell your friend to either stick with his engine now and turbo it or do a b16 swap. Choose one or the other, not both. Maybe a b18 but stay away from the c5 because it sounds like your both n00bs at this and i think **** might hit the fan

If ya got a sohc vtec, I say boost what ya got...that motor has alot of potential if you search on topics you can find some good information.....or if worse comes to worse you can goto: http://www.hmotorsonline.com and grab a B16 swap

if he has money to buy a type r and boost, i hope you have money to rebuild it. the type r 's have high compression and you run too much boost say bye to your motor, tell him to just spend the money he was going to use on the type r and turbo and just build is sohc motor and turbo it, people sleep on sohc but they can be built, well im a hypocrit cus i swapped out my sohc but each to his own

This is such a misconception. You can very easily turbocharge a B18C-R or C5 and make great power and not have to worry about blowing your motor. High compression is correct, but you can also lower the compression by either forging it with lower compression pistons or if your looking to run low boost you can simply buy a low compression head gasket. I am in the R forum all day long and know this topic rather well because its very popular. Tuning is more key then anything. To the original poster.....Its apparent that you are not familiar with the swap or turbo so my recommendation is to search the archived content for previous posts which there should be many of.... .
