Default Best Snow tires?

Alright, before I get the "dude, It's summer" thing, this fall I am going up to the UP of Michigan to Michigan Tech University, which for those that don't know michigan, It's basicly as north as you can go in michigan, and gets hit by Lake effect hard...

Anyways, back on topic.

This winter, I survided with 2 all seasons up front, and 2 pontenza s03's in back. With all my suspension crap, and no front sway, may car was basicly a drifter sol. It was fun, but it won't work up north.

I am going to either buy snow tires for my car (I've talked to a few with small cars up there, they said with snow tires you can go anywhere) or buy a Truck or Jeep.

Either way, I am keeping my car, weather it be here at home or up there. If I bought the truck or jeep, that would cost at least 3k for one that will get me around pretty good. Pretty pricy. If I just do the tires, I might be able to survie a winter for only 400 or so.

Getting side track again.

Why I am searching right now is because, In a few weeks, I am having my grad party, so I will be getting some extra cash then. I figure since demand is lower, people might be selling tires cheaper.

Heres what I got so far....

Tirerack.com....

Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 Price Each: $72 + 34.56 extra for road hazard

1010tires.com

http://1010tires.com/WinterTireClearance.asp

I have a set of 15's in my garage that I would probally use, but if I had to, I can get some 14's from my freinds junk yard for pretty cheap. I just need wheels that will clear my GSR brakes.

Anyone else with suggestions, sites, prices ect.

If you have the blizacs w50's what did you pay?

cant go wrong with Toyo winter tires... here in Canada there is a lot of snow and they are the favorite choice of many people !

I liked the Blizzak too but they wear pretty fast !

Nokian Hakka are the absolute best, they are the tires used for rally racing in the snow where studs are not allowed... heck even with studs, they still run Nokian tires.

Blizzaks are your best best if you're going for an all-out snow tire.

Michelin Arctic Alpin. Awesome tires. I love them. I live in Winnipeg where we get snow in May sometimes. I had a set of TOYO winter tires. Didn't like them as much as these.

The WS-50's are excellent definately one of the "best". However they do wear quickly on dry pavement so try to hold out until you HAVE to put them on. they make 35-40mph on snow covered roads (straight) feel comfortable and stop extremely well at slower speeds up to 30-35mph, above that there stopping distances are not nearly as impressive (this is emergency lock up style stopping)

Used the Blizzak's this winter for the first time and I LOVED them. Its hard to lose traction with them even when you're trying. Here in Cleveland near downtown on I-90 we have a "Dead Man's Curve", speed limit is 35 but I had no problem taking it at 50+. The only setback is that they'll wear very quickly when driven in higher temperatures.

When you say wear is an issue, how much of an issue is it with the blizzacks? I know that they don't like heat, and that will defently not be a problem (I will try to keep the footing of the azenies for as long as possible)

How many miles do you think you can get on a set? 10k? Remember, I am used to azenies and potenza s03's. I am used to wear

For those that had the blizzaks, what did you pay?
