I did a search and didn't really bring up a whole lot and was wondering if anyone can provide any feedback on how their car is running with any of the aftermarket ECU programs out there for the P28 running a b16a setup.

I'm trying find the one that is most optimized in terms of fuel and ignition timing for a b16a setup with normal I/H/E bolt on mods.

I'm trying to avoid any programs that have overly rich fuel mixtures that aren't needed on mild setups.

So far, my options seem to be Mugen, Skunk2, Spoon, J's Racing, Jun programs.

IMHO a Hondata system would be your best choice for a couple of reasons. All the other chip programs that you mentioned are set based on ASSUMPTIONS. Every engine tends to work a little different than another and when different types of aftermarket parts are added, those differences grow.

The other issue is that none of those programs are truely adaptive, so when you start adding more mods to your car, especially cams which can be designed to operate at many differnt RPM levels, your air/fuel, timing maps are simply not optimized and you tend to get the overly rich condition.

A hondata type system can ALWAYS be optimized for whatever part combinations you have on your car and continually be reprogramed as you add stuff at a later date. The Hondata type system is one you and your car can grow with where as none of the other programs can.

I do plan on doing Hondata s100 but I need a temporary P28 that is chipped because I'll be running a b16a. The nearest authorized Hondata tuner is about 6-8 hours from me so it won't be anytime soon. I just don't want to put up with a less optimized ecu for the time being and have poor performance out of my b16a.

Just get an OBD 1 ecu (P30) for a b16 put into your car for now, that with maybe an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for tuning will work just fine with the mods you have on your car now and the tuning will be close to optomized. Later on when you go Hondata you can still use the same ecu. This is the most economical way to go by far.

not true precisely. it depends what you have in your car. best bet is too get hondadata and tuned to get the best optimization needed
