best motor for autocross
i have a 95 civic ex with the factory d16z6, i want to set the car up for autocross and DO NOT WANT turbo, nitrous , ect. what motor would be the "best bang for my buck" and will actually yield gains with basic bolt-ons? im wanting around 140-160WHP. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: (SLO Sol)
b20 for bottom end but i heard they dont like to rev so much, maybe a b18? vtec or no vtec depending on your budget.
short geared b16 tranny to help keep the revs up.

I would keep the D, put a turbo, and spend the money saved for an engine swap on suspension rims and tires but that's just me

Motor often has little to do with going faster in Autocross than driver skill / suspension modifications do.
Ive kept same times with Dual cam motors with my singlecam one without a problem all this last season.
Your best bet for AutoX/DD IMHO would prob be like a gsr/itr, something with some nice low-end pickup (b20 too if thats available) and short gears. Makes great for sprinting between cone gates nad sharp turns.

with a 5k budget id do the b16 swap and build the motor. maybe cams, intake, header, ignition, and some tuning. a regular b16a is not that impressive, but if youo have extra cash you can make a strong/powerful motor.

how experienced are you? only reason that i ask is that autox really depends on driver skill and you wouldn't want to be in a different class because of swaps and whatnot.
for instance, when i had my R i went autox'in and would get beat by celica gts' with suspension and tires alone. having a b18 in a civic would surely make controlling the car much differently with the added hp.
if i were you, i'd add some boltons to the z6 and keep it simple. if anything drop a grand on the suspension. that's just me though...
i understand you wanting a swap though. hell, i'm putting in a b18c1 soon.

I second^.
any type of motorswap will put you in a different class. check out the rules and regulations for each class and decide where you want to compete in.
My friend had a bone stock dx hatchback with azenis on the stock 14' steelies and would always leave my *** after a turn or two (back in my back road carving days). I had the regular i/h/e and suspension and yet, there he went. at the same time, other people already thought i was driving fast.

This is actually very good advice. Come listen to this guy before you buy OP.
