I'd say an SRR 4.929FD.
You can buy it here:
http://www.aj-racing.com/
I had a 4.929FD in my Type R transmission and it made the biggest difference in my car man.
What it does is lowers the max mph in each gear so effectively it allows you to rip through each gear quicker. It improves acceleration and if you are familiar with how horsepower and torque are applied through your final drive then it actually increases the torque just by gearing alone.
I have not priced the SRR final drive for the D-series transmission, but I'm sure it's cheaper than my ATS 4.929FD for the Type R tranny was.
Good luck!

Oh and just to be clearer, I'll try to give you a more concrete example of how the FD changes your gearing:
Let's say your stock tranny does this:
1st gear - 32mph
2nd gear - 62mph
3rd gear - 90mph
4th gear - 125mph
5th gear - top speed
Those are just examples, so nobody call BS because it's been 4 years since I've owned a SOHC tranny.
Now with the 4.929FD it might be more like this:
1st gear - 26mph
2nd gear - 57mph
3rd gear - 84mph
4th gear - 118mph
5th gear top speed
Now I cannot think of the link to that awesome gearing chart where you can input every gear, tire sixe, and FD to determine exactly what the gearing and mph in each gear would be like, but that gives you an idea.
What the FD does NOT do is keep the rpm higher between shifts.
Example?
Let's say that when you shift from first gear into second the rpm drop down to 5500rpm or so. The 4.929FD won't change this, but it will allow you to rip through each gear faster - it makes a huge difference for real man.
I am speaking from personal experience in my own car - I would not own a D-Series tranny without a 4.929FD because the gearing is already too tall, and the stock D16Z6 tranny has a 4.25 FD - this will be a huge improvement!

this thread is retarded
I'm pretty sure he can read English pretty well too so I just posted helpful info rather than flame the guys.
Did your post make this thread less retarded?
Get my point?

I understand where u coming from. I also speak two languages (english/portuguese) but let's keep this board all english. writing in a language that only 2% of the members understand isn't polite.

hey b18c5-eh2 i am only asking you out right because you work at a shop but any1 is able to answer this. how much would it cost to get this installed, also if was to get this installed should i might aswell get the transmission rebuilt. i guess my goal is to have a fun to drive d16 as apposed the the d15 i have now. i guess it would be for overall driving and a little autox .
thanks in advance for the help

To me, it sounded like he wanted advice on making his next tranny last longer, but in English it sounded like he was asking for ways to modify the gear ratios, et cetera. I was just trying clarify the question.
I told him to use Red Line MTL, but I guess my Danish isn't so good. It took a while for him to figure out what I meant by 'Red Que' MTL. My bad...
He asked where I lived and how I knew Danish. I told him Arizona and I said he spoke good English. He asked if I thought he could buy Red Line oil in DK.
What threw me is I think he said he is using automatic transmission additive in his manual tranny. I am waiting for him to reply.
Anyway, that's the gist of the conversation...

Well add to that the labor to tear the tranny down and rebuild it and I'd think it would be like $500.00 or so total.
If I were you I'd replace all of the bearings and also the mainshaft seal and shifter shaft seal.

Re: The best improvements on the tranny.. (SOHC_DK.)
i'm pretty sure that the only 4.9 fd for d series tranny aj had was sold.
i'm pretty sure that they still have a 4.7fd which is still better then nothing. i believe it was around 500ish CDN.
fd is the most underated mod ever

Re: The best improvements on the tranny.. (deepnite)
Tom, how does the ATS FD affect highway cruising RPM? My GSR tranny runs at about 4500 rpm at 80... i know the FD will raise that, but by how much? Is the extra acceleration worth it for the higher cruise RPM?
My car is daily driven and i dont know if i want the higher rpms...
Thanks,
-Nick-

Re: The best improvements on the tranny.. (B19CivicHB)
4.929 / 4.40 = 1.12
Current rpm at any given mph x 1.12 = new rpm at same mph
4500 x 1.12 = 5040 rpm @ 80 mph

the best thing ive done to improve my tranny was to change to redline MTL
