Welcome to Honda-Tech

A few things...

—You are aware that just I/H/E on your D16Y8 will not yield huge gains, right? Of course with some motor work you can get decent numbers, and maybe with some nitrous...but IMHO the way to go with a SOHC VTEC is to turbocharge it.

—A DC Sports header is fine. Not that expensive, and good quality.

—Your exhaust choices are somewhat limited. Off the top of my head, here are the cat backs available:

Brospeed
GReddy SP
Tanabe G-Medallion
Tanabe Racing Medallion
Kakimoto R

...there might be one or two more that I'm not remembering. I know there are some other knowledgable Sol owners on this board that can help me out here.

—Have you considered going the custom exhaust route? This is nice because you can pick the muffler you want, and then find a shop that can make mandrel bent (<-- mandrel bent is key) piping and can make an exhaust for you. A lot of Solers do this since there are hardly any full cat backs made for our cars.

—Check out http://www.teamdelsol.com and http://www.hondavision.com (<-- great Sol board) for some more info on del Sols in general and del Sol clubs.

—And finally, how do you like that Tiburon?

thanks for the responce. I know that im not going to get much out. my girl is trying to go mostly show w. it but with a little bit of bite. from what ive read here and on other forums the dc combo or dc w. custom seems to be the best bet.

and as for my tiburon. i love it. a real huge improvement from other hyundai's in the past. now its just a matter of sit back and wait for more items to be developed.

If you'll just be going w/ mild bolt-on's (which it sounds like you are if you're concentrating on show) You'll want to stick with a 4-2-1 header. 4-2-1 header will be best because you're engine doesn't redline relatively high......the 4-2-1 will maximize your mid-range power gains. Comptech makes a great 4-2-1 header because they "step" the diameter of the primaries->secondaries->collector. Increasing the diameter promotes the scavenging effect and will give you a slight advantage over those companies (which are most btw) that use a consistent tube diameter throughout the header. Comptecht would be best......but if you're on a budget: DC or Greddy are also good too.

From there, you'll want to go w/ a hi-flow cat. The cheapest, but most neglected part of the exhaust system. Carsound makes a good cat. go to ipsracing.com. BTW for you application you'll want the 2.25" design. 2.5" is too big for your needs. (again, assuming you're going w/ the basic bolt-on's)

Now the exhaust. You'll want a 2.25" diameter exhaust. Again, this will maximize the exhaust gas flow for your needs. I wouldn't go w/ anything larger than a 2 3/8" system. If you go w/ 2.5" you'll kill you flow velocity. Make sure to find out what muffler design each company uses as well. Straight thru designs will yield more power vs. a chambered muffler at the expense of being louder.

Hope this helps.
