i c wut u did there
The important question is budget, know how, etc.
If you're budget is unlimited I'd tell you to put your civic on top of a subaru frame/suspension/engine.
If you've got $600-1500 I'd tell you to leave your car alone.

The best swap is a J series V6. The best power for the money is a built D series (stock engine rebuild) on boost or a boosted stock block. The worst power for the money is a K series swap. Followed by a B series swap (unless you have some crazy hookups).

what?^ the truth is that modern engines with dual (or quad) variable camshafts can spool a turbo quicker while generating more top-end power than a single cam enigine. running more than one camshaft enables twin cam engines to fill the cylinders with more air (or boost), and run cleaner and more efficiently than ever before. that's a win-win for the b, k and j-series

i wasn't talking to the guy who started the thread, sorry for not answering your question Mims3Id, i would atleast start with a ls or b20 given their fairly cheap setups for daily's but if you can afford it i would go with a gsr or type r engine

And I have seen turbo D builds cost into the thousands, and K-swaps done pretty cheap. You shouldn't make such generalizations about builds. It really depends on your application, budget, and skill. There is an infinite different ways to making power, that's the beauty of Honda's.

Js might be nice money wise but if it was such an easy and best build there'd probably be more of them. clearance ground or hood is kind of a serious aesthetic issue for a DD.
i also don't think honda's have quad cams...not sure on new ones. usually thats a ford, chevy, dodge thing.

There are always pro's and cons of each type of swap. You cant just say that a J swap is the best swap... What about hood clearance? weight? downtime, amount of fabrication required, etc.

If you have a little time and space I say buy a crate D-series and re-build. For a good boost application all you need is pistons, rods, rings, springs, and retainers. Keep it simple.
This is obviously more than you need but it's proof that D's can make power. You don't need the P&P, TB, IM, ect. Just keep it simple.

K series is worst power for money? Get with the times, you find find K series for pretty cheap now days. And I would never put a J series in a civic, they belong in accords and integras imo!

Re: best engine to swap into a 99-00 EX
agreed i'd have to smack you if you did a j swap lol but unless you have a hook up or already have a k ready shell imo a kswap is a wast..can't beat b20/b20v

If your trying to go cheap, I'd look into an LS or even a B20. Both are fairly cheap and put out decent power. Even boosting the D isnt a bad idea. My ej7 was boosted for a while on 5psi.

Re: best engine to swap into a 99-00 EX
I know it's been done with success (those that are built correctly with aftermarket rods ect) but I don't like boosting the Honda engines that have an 89mm stroke. However, if the engine is only going to see 5-8psi I could be tempted. I say D-series boosted for cheap and easy.
