1. LS/VTEC hybrid, why, because its cheaper then the GS-R, more horses, and mad torque and it works well if you go NA or forced induction
2.B16A, why, its cheaper then the GS-R and responds really well to mods
3.B18c5/c1, why, because both the GS-R and the ITR are quite a bit more expensive and they both have their advantages, while ITR is TYPE-R cool and it saves you the trouble of porting and polishing a GS-R, the GS-R leaves you like 2Gs for mods
4.B16b, why, because it would be focking cool, I wish I had the luxury
5.H22, why, big focking pain in the **** and I would much prefer keeping my power steering and probably my AC
6. Big Block Chevy, uhhhhhhhhh

Does it? I hear people with Si's complaining all the time about how they spent all this money on bolt-ons and it didn't do poo poo. Hhmm?

yeah I don't know I've heard a lot of good things about bolt ons for Sis but maybe I'm wrong. I didn't wana say anything earlier because I am a newbie to the board and I didn't wana get a lot of poo poo, but I think just telling people to search is totally useless, I mean I understand that sometimes it gets redundant what gets posted, it was esp. like that on the superhonda board but there is still no need to make a post just to say that they should have searched, that wastes everyone's time just as much as a repeted post

go with the you can buy. The ls/vtec will cost more than a b18c (if you do it right). I don't know one person with a ls/vtec that hasn't blown that went the straight route. It will be more expensive in the long run basically. Besides if you have to ask, don't get the ls/vtec. More work. Go with the b16a sir II if you can't afford the b18c. In the long run, you can do more with the b18c than you can with the b16a. I wish I would have gone b18c. I am not satisfied with my b16a sirII.

Peace

I have typed responses to this same topic too may times as well. Seriously a search will yield at LEAST 20 or more topics that compare engines in any car you can imagine.

I DO have something good to say, but I'm tired of typing it every other day, so please don't tell me that I'm just being critical.

I think JonnyC and many others can attest that I do try to help a lot, but I get tired of having to type the same responses to the SAME questions.

I GUESS I'll just search it my damn self - then I'll just copy/paste my own response...

I've owned the big 3 VTEC motors in the same exact car with same mods, so I think i've got an accurate account of the real differences at the track and daily driving too.

I'll search...

Here you go - this is from an old topic about the same thing GODD LUCK!

First of all if it's a B16A2 then it is not a JDM motor - more than likely its from a 1999-2000 Civic Si or 1997 Del Sol VTEC.

Listen man, I've had all 3 of the most popular B-Series motors - B16A2, B18C1, and the B18C5. My fiancee' has the car on the left with a B16A2 in it, and my old car is on the right - had a B18C1 in it for a year and then I "upgraded" to a 1998 Type R swap.

Get the B18C1! I'm telling you it's the best overall VALUE. In identically prepped cars my old B18C1 was a good deal quicker than my fiancee's B16A2. If you can find a good deal on a B18C5 swap then obviously that's the one to get, but you must be super patient when looking - I got a whole totalled ITR for only $4,000!

My B18C1 ran a 14.6 in my 2289lb. Si hatch on street tires (16'' crapwheels too)
My fiancee's B16A2 runs awesome, but I can't see it besting a 14.9 or maybe even a 15.0. The B18C1 was a good eal quicker on the street in all areas because of its USABLE power and torque.

Don't just read PEAK numbers - the power BAND on the B18C1 is more broad and usable than the B16A2.

My B18C1 rolled 150hp and 124lb/ft. of torque to the wheels (whp was little low)
My girl's B16A2 rolled 143hp and 102lb/ft. of torque to the wheels.

Both had same mods, but what those numbers do not tell you is that the B18C1 had a nice, think powerband that was above 140whp from 4500-up to the redline. The B16A2 was dead pretty much until 6000rpms. By that time the race is over.

Again, this is all from EXPERIENCE in the REAL world - I drove BOTH cars daily and while I love the B16A2 swap, the B18C1 is hands-down better for drag and street driving. You don't have to rev the **** out of the 1.8L just to pass like you do the B16A2.

BTW: The pics were to show some photographical proof that I really have two identical cars with different motors. Never can tell who's bullcrapping

Let me also add that if someone wants to talk poo poo on those 1/4 mile times, then keep in mind I'm in GA where most cars run slower than other states AND the cars seen above are Si hatches, which are a good 200+lbs. heavier than the average CX, VX, or DX.

If it's a simple debate on B16A vs. B18C1 then I think my above post would be a good argument for the B18C1. In equal cars in the same area with same driver (me) the B18C1 was always faster, and in daily driving the GS-R motor was hands-down better for traffic.

Also, it's very easy to upgrade the B18C1 to stomp a B18C5. Just get an ITR tranny, good cams and valvetrain, Skunk2 manifold, and a good ECU program and you will have a B18C5 beater for less money.

And don't bitch at me about hating on ITR motors - I have one and I love it, but i would NOT have been happy if I had spent the $5,500-$6,500 that most spend on it. For less than that a B18C1 can RAPE an ITR motor any day with the right mods and tranny.

And if you're wondering about LS and B20 motors, I've ridden in those too. The B20Z really doesn't pull crazy in the low end like you'd expect it to. My girl's B16A2 feels stronger than my friend's B20Z2 with Skunk2 manifold and LS tranny.

B20/VTEC and LS/VTEC motors can be hella strong, but contrary to popular belief they are NOT cheaper than most VTEC swaps if they are built RIGHT. You guys can argue this, but i've seen too many "cheaper" LS/VTECs blow the hell up because they were not done right.

With a Honda-built motor you will not have to second-guess the quality, and if you truly know the builder of the B20/VTEC or LS/VTEC then the quality should be as good as the builder.

Good luck.

Tell you what everybody, why don't we make THIS thread the thread that we can refer new people that ask this question to?

If everybody posts their good input on THIS thread, we can just copy the link and refer them to this thread.

This will also not look so bad to the new guy when we give him/her a link rather than just say:

"Do a search..."

The title of this thread also makes it a perfect topic to show to any aspiring 1992-1995 hybrid owner.

Later!

And your point? Perhaps I found out about this site after you, but that does not mean that I am new to the Honda thing pal.

I meant new in the Honda thing more than new to this board.

Oh, and I also have over 1000 posts and please do some research on them and you'll see that the majority of them are about tech and NOT spamming or whoring, so please redirect your comments up your own ***, thanks.

Yes, ALL of your post are annoying. I don't speak just for myself either.

Somehow, someway you find a way to bastardize a thread.

Bastardize...what in the hell are you talking about?

That'd be great if you could list the people you are speaking for as well as well as WHY my posts are annoying. Don't ruin this thread please by trying to rip on me, okay? How about starting a thread in the member's corner like "ATTN: B18C5-EH2" or something, okay?

Thanks bitch.
