Save your money for a couple years, build up the suspension with your paychecks, take a driving class/school and then get a K-series when you turn 18.

I agree with Arc when it comes to the suspension. Just make the car more nice to ride in. Spend some time learning the car and it's limits. Save the rest of your earnings and do a oem z6 build ( a6 pistons or a1 pistons w/ a6 headgasket ) with i/h/e. It won't be the fastest thing out there, but at least it'll be fun and you won't break your pockets.

Out of all things, have fun with your car !

Just get what fits your budget best, also keeping what you want to do with it down the road in mind.

I'm 17, and have a b16a2 .. but, my car came with it. When i had my hatch, i planned on a b18c1.

We just swapped a b16a2 into my friends 92 Si, and it hauls. No matter what you choose, it will be pretty quick... it all depends on your budget and what you want out of the motor.

I totally agree with the suspention thing... also use this time saving money to learn everything you can... Have it your goal, that by the time you can afford that dream motor, there is not a thing on that car mechanically that you cannot do/fix yourself...

Save and Study....

b18b. i paid 420 for mine and full swaps can be had for around a grand.

in a cx hatch that would be a fun ride...who knows maybe you can visit the darkside in a few years

thats the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. I think MATURITY is what matters. I had a 02 SER with an 80 shot when i was 16 and im still here. if you want to drive like a stunna, youll find a way to die regardless of what motor is in your car.

u should get what YOU want..........dont rush things...ur still young so if u figure u keep saving u could hav a awesome turbo or na setup eventually.... if u get something now and rush it like a sohc ur just gonna end up wanting to go faster and when people say build it (IMHO) i dont think SOHC will ever be as fast as DOHC....and for the people that want to turbo the sohc think about turbo-ing the dohc duhhhhhhhh

yeah, a sohc vtec engine is more than enough to pull you through the corners.

I'd spend more money on having fun and taking girls out

High School girls dont require much money

I say get atleast an LS. you can find a LS swap for cheap if you look. just dont brag about it at school, some stunna will want to steal it.

you have to consider if a swap is something that you really want to do. I wanted to do a swap when I turned 16 too, but then you start to realize how much money it actually costs. It won't stop at the engine, your goona want header, intake, exhaust and full suspension, probably rims, and you'll probably want to paint that grey **** on the front of your car, do you really have money for all of that??? I had a good paying high school job but I had to save up for university, pay for **** so I could get laid (women like things), and get drunk on the weekend, by the time that I got where I am now (1st year uni.), I'm **** broke. after all that all I had money for was I/E/H, some body work, rims/tires and little bits. just know what your getting in to.

def sohc vtec,
it'll be fairly quick.

dump some weight off your hatch,
get whatever boltons you can afford, and you have a fun high 15sec car for not much money,
and it'l be reliable.

and if you have some more money down the line, you can turbo it and it'll be a beast,
way faster than a stock bseries
