Best daily driven trany for LS in 93 Hatch
What is the best daily driven trany for a B18B in a 93 hatch? This needs to be driven on the highway at times, if that makes a difference in your choice.

Yeah, you might as well put an LS 5th in there. Even with a stock tranny you're going to have to downshift to pass someone.

I went from a LS tranny to a gsr tranny.. back to a LS tranny(in 4 months I did this) ... trust me get the GSR tranny yeah highway rpms aren't the best.. but the gears are made for the LS.. only thing that sucked was that if you are going 80mph on the freeway in 5th gear.. and you try to downshift to 4th gear .. you'll almost be at redline for a stock LS... but the biggest difference was my CM flywheel I added when I went to a gsr tranny and thus I have kept it with my new Ls tranny... bUT i DRIVE over 40miles a day to work and I needed something I can cruise with on the freeway

If you want a LS motor and still want ti to be quick. You need to go with a B16A tranny for the simple fact that it has shorter gears and will help that under powered motor. A GSR trannywould be good except that 2nd gear falls back too far and you wont really get the pull like the B16A tranny will.

I vote for a GSR tranny if you are going to be doing a lot of highway driving. If you don't think you'll be doing a lot of that, go with a B16 tranny.

Has anyone done a shiftpoint/gear/RPM comparison of the GSR, LS, and B16 tranys? I found this http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/tranny.html which has some great info but this is for D tranys only. Is there one for B tranys?
BY the way, I don't know who "mistabone" is but compliments to you for an awesome web page! 0

I do not know if mista bone did the calculations himself.. but I use this site
http://www.jadesupra.net/gears/index.html it seems not to far off and is pretty accurate from my experience with it..
just enter in these numbers plus wheel size and it'll give you shift point RPM/MPH.. plus you also enter in your redline in this calculator
gsr tranny
3.230 , 1.900, 1.360 , 1.034, .787.. FD is 4.40
LS
3.239, 1.900, 1.269 , .966 , .714

I have an LS, and it works, RPMS are kinda high on the interstate, but oh well
ls tranny has the longest gear ratio of any b series tranny
try have a b16 tranny with a jdm final 4.785......can we say 5500 at 80 mphs....quit crying bout your 4000 rpm cruising level!

LS gears suck big time. get a GSR or R spec gearing at least. this will keep you in the power band and give the car much needed zippiness around town.

So is this accurate?:
LS... .tall gears................but best for city and highway use
GSR.... shorter gears.......better for street and some highway
B16....very short gears....stop light killer but no highway!

What are the RPM's of the LS, GSR, and B16 tranys at 80 MPH? Size of tires also needs to be noted to keep the info equal. Thanks...

3500..4000..4400 (LS,GSR,B16A) usually this are pretty much the rpms you'll be seeing @80mph in 5th gear
