Man, honestly, I don't know crap about building a D-series, but one thing I've heard about over the years is Vitara pistons.

vitaras are the cheapest but the best (but they still pack a punch for the price)
i think there are ycp, wiseco, comp, and other forged pistons that go well into the 600hp range.
people usually boost y8 and z6's since they are already the fastest motors

And D15Bs, my friend made 191whp with a T3/T4 on 7 lbs, totally stock engine, but he used Hondata S300, so...that was a big part of it.

I'm in love with the Z6. 185 whp @ 7psi on a Talon TD05H with stock engine and stock ecu, tuned of course, but still. Managed to pull a 14.2 with street tires and no burn out.

Re: best d-series to build for turbo?
theres a whole forum dedicated to turbo'd d16's...
best one is either a y8 or z6 with vitara pistons, eagle rods, a fully built head with new valves, guides, springs. after that.. port out your oil pump, new fuel pump + injectors.. and start building up a budget for that turbo build

i like the y8 for a vitara build. it will give you a little bit less compression so you can up the boost a lil bit more some extra power. either was if you want to build a d series for boost the cheapest proven way to good numbers is the vitara build. the shop i go to has theirs running 600+whp stock sleeves

I am building a Y8 with a Z6 head. I've got SRP 9:1 comp, Kms Springs and Retainers, H beam Rods, Golden eagle block guard and im gonna run like 9lbs. hoping to get around 200hp. Ive heard alot of good things about the z6 head compared to the Y8.

All those D16s are great and all but have you seen what the D15b Turbo does with a little build and pushing 10lbs? What a awesome little motor!! I would go with the d15b it has a more aggressive cam than the rest...But get the Y8 intake and d16 p20 tranny for even more out of the SOHC..I wish you luck man..

Re: best d-series to build for turbo?
It doesn't matter what one you use for the simple fact that you won't be using the stock components for long. About the only thing you'll still use on a turbo setup will be the head, block, and crank and in which case either Z6 or Y8 would be the best choice. If you're smart you won't be using the stock rods or pistons. Also, as far as transmission goes either Z6 or Y8 works fine. They're almost identical besides the shift forks, and it's very debatable which is even better. I'd just build whatever motor I had, it's not like you need VTEC when you have a turbo setup.
