Best Coilovers for the money
I'm close to selling my Si and grabbing a CX project car.
Tom, Ryan, Tony or anyone else with something intelligent to add please give me you opinion on what suspension setup to go with.
I had Neuspeed springs and KYB AGX's on my Si and they were great for around town driving, but since I'll own this civic out right I feel like i can splurge a little on the this hatch.
I don't want t spend more then 800-1000 bux on this setup.
I've been looking @ TEIN, Buddy Club (Haven't really looked into the price), Neuspeed (W/Bilsteins. my cousin has this on his integra nad the ride great), Apex'i N1 WS Dampers, or JIC magic.
Feel free to add any coilovers that are great that I've missed.
If you guys are wondering what the car will be used for: It will be my daily driver. It will see drag strip action. It will see auto-X and track action. It will have a turbo (7-9 pounds of boost, whatever i can get safely out of it). I'm not to worried about a stiff ride most of my cars have ridden really stiff. I don't want bone crunching but i want he best coilovers that can pull double duty.
Thanx in advance to the opinions.
And yes i have done a search and read reviews on most of the coilovers I'm looking @. I know some of you have tried different suspension out and I want to here from those people

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (Apex i ITR)
I have the H & R coilovers. I believe they are the same as the neuspeed. They seem soft compaired to my Neuspeed race springs/ tokiko blue set up on my other car, but the ride is great. They hold just as good on the new car that has the stock 13 in VX wheels and no sway bars yet.
The only thing I thought I would regret was the fact they are not dampiner adjustable, (sp?) but I can think of any decent full coilovers under $1000 that are.

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (Hankish)
I thought you could get Tein HA's for a just under 1000 that have dampnening adjustability.
The Old Apex'i N1's had adjustable dampners but the revisedi t and are now selling for close to 2000 bux. I would just get the Toda Fightex Coilovers for that kind of money.

Get the Koni-Eirbach spring and shock set up like what is on Tom's car, thats what I am getting in about 2 weeks. The price should be under 800 and you can get custom spring rates from eirbach. Personally thats what I would do (and am doing).

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (Apex i ITR)
I`ve had:
Skunks n Koni
GC`s and Koni
Tein HA
KG/MM
KG/MM are the best IMO, but I`d never spend that much on suspension. I got a killer deal that I culdn`t refuse.
My GC and Koni setup was fine. Never had any problems with it and they performed well.
Loved my HA`s. Price was right and they seem to hold their value pretty well. A ricer will buy them a year later for a little less than what you paid. Their turnaround time on service is quick, too.
You`ll get a different response in the ITR Forum, but most of them seem to think of themselves as hardcore racers even though there isn`t a track within 300 miles haha.
Bottom line: You`ll be happy w/ the tein ha or the gc/koni combo for the occasional canyon run and/or lapping day. Choice is yours..

How do the HAs compare the the SSs? I thought you could not get the HAs anymore.
Koni makes coilovers now. You can get custom spring rates on those as well.

I haven`t used the SS on my car, but my friends seem to like theirs. That`s all the input I have as of right now

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (Apex i ITR)
both are adjustable.. the HA.. comes with the Helper spring/main spring combo.. while the SS only comes with the main spring..and I believe the SS spring rates are a tad softer.. but you can order different spring rates from TEIN

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (IM ALL BOB)
i have the SS, got them for under a grand shipped. in the past ive done konis and sk2s, and i really feel like the teins are ngiht and day difference. the SS is a great strut for jsut weekend racers, you cna get them plnety soft for the street. IMHO id spend the extra couple hondo and buy a nice coilover. the old setup i had jsut didnt feel as responsive. im sure tom will argue this one though.
also, do a search in the itr forum, those guys liek to drop some serious bling on thier suspensions.
OT there is a nice set of JIC coilovers on ebay right now, maybe you cna get a smokin deal on them.

I'm running the GC/Koni Yellow setup and I think it's great. I really think I should upgrade my wheels though. The vxers aren't cuttin it.

tokiko blue shocks are not great for lowered cars... you will wear them out just as fast as you would brand new stock shocks... i will explain why in another post, late for work

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (tim anto)
When at SEMA I talked with Tein, and JIC for a long time. The guys at JIC were extremely confident in their products. They are pretty big in japan. The thing i liked about theirs is they are all stainless and most applications come with upper pillow mounts. Also their height adjustability is in the shock tube and not the spring so that there is no change in compression of the spring. Or i think thats why they do that. I think some of the buddy clubs are like that as well. If i had the $$ i'd probably choose those. For the price i've heard that u really cant go wrong with tein tho. Might want to consider spring rates tho depending on what u go for. SS's seem kinda soft just looking at rates. I guess the struts make up for it tho.

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (BigZ88)
When I had my HAs, I loved them. They were never too stiff. When I had them all the way up, I had a great time shooting into corners and shooting right out.
For the price I paid ($800), you can't beat them. I'd say that's right around with a gc/koni yellow set up is, so you might as well spend the extra dough to go with a full coilover set up. Plus, as said before, they hold their value. If you want to sell them, they will go quick. I sold mine for $50 less than what I paid for. So, 7 months of action for $50 is not too bad.
Coupled with the suspension, you're for sure gonna want to pick up some sway bars. OEM is a good choice. Makes the turns flatter and an over all better experience when you're entering a turn at a high speed.
I would like to try some Zeals or JICs next time around though..see they turn out.

My buddy just rode in a car with JIC Coilovers...he said they were amazing. He liked em better than Teins by far. Said the ride was really smooth.

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (RK)
For suspension mods I was thinking the obvious Upper Strut and Rear Upper Strut bars. Rear Tie bar and a beaks kit/ITR sway bar, maybe a Sus tech front sway bar. Maybe a Neupeed Front lower Strutbar and whatever coilovers I decide on. I figured that should be enough for everyday usuage and weekend fun. I'll probably want the spring rates somewhat stiff just not sure exactly what I want yet. i was just looking for some suggestions...Thanks for all the great input guys.

I got Tein SS's but I havent installed them. Tony from turboevo hooked me up with an awesome price on the SS's. I would recommend him for anything Tein.

Re: Best Coilovers for the money (b00stn)
You should consider Mugen Lowdowns IMO.
The only downside I can see (I have both Lowdown AND Zeal Function S ) is that they are HEAVY compared to full-aluminum bodied coilvovers like the Function S/S6 (or Tein RA)...we're talking about 5-6lbs PER CORNER.
But a lot of ITR guys seem to like them a lot.
