best clutch
Ok, well before long I will be doing a timeing belt, water pump, tensioner, valve lash adjustment on my 97 civic hx with the 1.6 v-tec e. I figured it will be easier to do the timing belt while the engine is out and you have to take out the engine to easily do a clutch, and ontop of that I don't think that it has ever had a clutch put in it. So I figured that I would just hoist up the engine a couple of feet, do the timing belt, clutch, ect. So that leads me to my question...
What is the best stock replacement clutch? I do not race, it is a daily driver, and I like to get on it every now and then. Should I just spend the money and go with a genuine honda one or is there a better aftermarket THAT IS NOT A RACING CLUTCH? I do not want a racing clutch.
later,
robert

If you want a clutch that'll have the life of your OEM clutch, you want... an OEM clutch from Honda.
If you don't mind replacing it more often, there's no shortage of aftermarket clutches to go with. You just want a basic OE replacement clutch kit. Exedy should be good, I went with an ACT kit and it's good.
Though based on the position the clutch engages at, the ACT makes me think it's going to wear out quick - started out engaging near the floor, 1.5yrs later it's engaging at almost the top of the clutch travel. I keep hoping it's just the magic of self-adjusting hydraulics at play, but I'm pretty sure I'll be replacing it fairly soon...

Re: best clutch (MonkeyBoy668)
I've had several exedy clutches. I always had very good luck with them.
ACT has a better performance better but IMO isn't worth the extra $$$ unless you have a heavily modded engine that needs it.
My only complaint about ACT other than the cost is the squeaky throw out bearing.

Re: best clutch (dohcdelsol93)
gripforce clutches on ebay.
Great seller, quick shipping.
You should be able to get a clutch for under $100 for an OE replacement.
I paid $240 for OE replacement and a 9lb fidanza.

I take no joy in replacing clutches, so what ever will last the longest. I was planning on going with a honda one, but didn't know if any aftermarket would last as long or longer. Would it be best to mix and match, say aftermarket clutch and a honda throughout bearing, or other way around? Just thowing some ideas around.
thanks

to be exact, 220 for clutch and thowout bearing. Not as bad as I thought it would be but still pretty expensive.
thanks,
robert

I ment that it was 220 for the parts, I'm doing the work myself.

hey sorry i never responded to your question. Im not really sure about miles it really all depends on your driving i personally beat the **** out of my civic and its been a little over two years and the clutch still grabs like the first day i put it in the car. It really isnt a hard pressure plate so the pedal is close to stock. the only negative i have heard about cf clutches are with turbo set ups.
