Best/Cheapest EG/EH Duckbill? OEM Wing and 3rd Light MELTED!
Yes this sounds like a noobish topic, I know. I have never really had a huge desire to have a duckbill on my 1992 hatch until I discovered this morning that my third brake light and OEM spoiler were MELTED!!!
Now I know what you're thinking:
"Whoa man you've got some serious electrical problems man!!!"
Well no I realized exactly how this happened after some serious thought. The little plastic tab in the top of my brake pedal had broken out, causing my brake lights to stay on. This in and of itself will not cause the "meltdown" you see here. What WILL cause this is having the brake lights staying on while the car is parked outside in 95 degree heat/sunlight with a car cover on it!!! I didn't realize the brake lights were on until later in the evening (when the sun wasn't so bright) and the familiar blue plastic bits were then discovered in my floorboard.
Anyways so now I'm exploring options. I can get a replacement OEM set up for free from some local friends, but my time is limited these days, and it will cost money to color match it so I am looking at C/F duckbills. So far I've found a VIS version from Password JDM for $300.00ish. I've been extremely pleased with my old VIS hood seen here that is now a good 6 or 7 years old:
Is VIS still a high standard for C/F parts?
I've also seen some fiberglass versions that I'd possibly color match (which sort of defeats the purpose of going aftermarket) for $135.00ish too.
Anyone have any other good suggestions? I'm an absolute maniac when it comes to fitment and finish though. If there is a "brand X" C/F wing for $50.00 cheaper than "Brand Y" but fits poorly, or has an inconsistent finish I'll pass.
Thanks for the help.
Oh and BTW here is a general pic of the car so you can see what I'm working with, and which wing might "flow" best:

The cheap c.f. Duckbill it depends...my first purchase duckbill no thrid brakelight no brand carbon fiber fits perfect... My second fit like **** CF I have to cut some of the fiber off from the inside to fit the bolts, it fit three bolts only. So I think you pay for what you get but it depend if you get the good fitment or not.

DO NOT EVER buy the bys wing, that wing looks HORRID on an eg hatch, not to mention is a 700 overpriced piece of garbage, go with a kevlar duckbill w/ led

I remember installing a CF duckbill on someones hatch a few years back, I can't recall right off what brand it was, but it wasn't a cheap knock off brand, and it didn't fit well enough to satisfy me. If it was me, i'd go with the JDM 1 piece metal spoiler, it looks cleaner (doesn't have the stupid 1" filler piece) and its a little bit longer. Can be seen here ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-C...Q5fAccessories
Its what i'll be putting on my hatch if it ever gets finished.
