A Correctly done LS/Vtec or b20Vtec will cost you alot more than a grand.
Cheap LS Block $150
Cheap b16 Head $350
Conversion Kit $200
ITR/GSR oil pump $80
Water Pump/Timing belt kit $150
Used Knock Sensor $40
Machine work $50-100
Piston Rings $50
New Gaskets/Seals $100
Thats not even a reliable build either thats just basics all at really cheap prices you'd be lucky to get. As with every build theres all the small things that add up after awhile.
Buy a used b20 and some mild cams and youll have plenty of fun in it.

stock b20 with gsr head IS NOT 200whp
its more lie 165-170whp
a b20 block with those 84mm itr style pistons and a gsr head would give you 180-190whp.
why gsr head.
b16 head is cheaper. get itr valve springs and some cams decent header and intake and youll make 200whp no problem
