belt problems

Default belt problems

For the pass few weeks my belts squeal whenever i turn up my stereo system loud. I checked the tension on all the belts and they are all good so my question is which belt do you think it is. A few people said that it is my alternator belt casue when my system is up loud it draws more power which makes it squeak. Oh yea its a 97 civic.

get out of ur car a listen.. have some silicon spray and spray it on the belts... then ull know which one was noisy

The idler pulley will make noise when the bearing goes south. It could be the altenator as well considering the excess load.

On the charging side you can check it by disconnecting the negative battery cable. If the car dies the alternator isnt charging. A faulty voltage regulator will cause a whining noise that will go away when you disconnect the big plug (while its running). And you can use a mechanics stethoscope, long screwdriver, or prybar to listen for a bad bearing.
