i do not get this. is being tune really that big of a HP gain? me and my best friend have the exact same car. Civic Hatches. I have a 98 B18C wit BLOX IM, PasswordJDM Intake, Megan Headers, Apexi N1 catback and Skunk2 Tuner stage 1 cams running a OB2 P72. I have CF hood and Trunk. He has a 95B18C Skunk2 Pro IM, Blox 70 MM TB, same intake, Greddy header and custom black exhuast but he has a hondata s100 tune, he has no A/C and PS. he smokes me up and down the highway. i mean there is no close hanging he SMOKES me. i cant figure this out. i know he aint spraying he is my best friend. any ideas? i hope i got it in the right section.

Well, yes, a majority of HT members will even say the tune is "everything". The stock ECU may not know how to respond to the bolt-ons, and is configured for stock everything, and economy-minded.

The S100, however, is tuned for power based on the modifications done, by a real person who is working on one specific car, instead of 10 million generic stock cars.

Tuning helps. :-)

As mild as the tuner series stage 1 cam is, it's pretty silly to think that you'd make any more power without actually tuning the engine.

On my stock H22, I picked up a peak of 5hp and 5ft.lb up top, and 10hp and 10ft.lb in the midrange over the stock basemap. Only took a couple hours on the dyno.

My theory is this: If you're not going to tune, dont waste your time buying parts.

If you dont tune for the parts you buy, your engine will keep thinking its all stock; therefore, you'll never make any additional power. A tune (even a good basemap) will open up some unseen hp.

i know this is a nub question...but on a tune how much HP is opened up? i see being tuned is a huge HP gain.

There's no way to answer that question. There are too many variables involved. But if you get a chipped ecu and get your car custom tuned then maybe you'll fair better against your friend.

I picked up 10hp and 10 ft.lb in the midrange on my stock H22 over the basemap.

Exactly. It really depends on the setup. For instance, my stock GSR went from 156whp to 315whp when i got tuned...granted my setup is a tad different than yours
